H. Imazeki released a new beta for AppShelf (v. 1.3) on 1/26/07. From his website (http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/APsh/index-e.html) the changes in the beta include:

-An Ext.Window manager's specification was made Ver2 correspondence.
-The built-in module was updated.
Correspondence to a key focus(default is Tab key), date selection, etc.
-Operation of a mini-pad was carried out to icon pad conformity.
(FocusSwKey etc. setup item of an Ext.Window manager in common) .
-The related database etc. was deleted at the time of module deletion.
However, only the database of a module is deleted when database of
application/DA exists by the same CreatorID.
-While checking the "Small icon dispaly of Apps on ROM by software reduced"
item, it corrected that the icon on a mini pad might not be displayed
correctly.
-While checking the "Small icon dispaly of Apps on ROM by software reduced"
item, it was made to display the icon for file browsers by reduction.
-It enabled it for the keyboard of Treo to perform starting by hold.
-The item which also checks Hidden bit of DBAttr to a setup of a contents
category was added.
-The attribute of the file moved after a card application end and onto
memory card was saved.
-When not displaying a folder on a folder category, it corrected that Upfolder
might be displayed.
-OS5.2 or later, it was made not to use DAHelper for DA starting.
-It enabled it to choose the sending method by the correspondence device
to an infrared icon at the time of drops.
-While replacing the home screen, a setup which assigns AppShelf to
application buttons (button 4 of Treo etc.) was added.
-Drawing of frame relation etc. was corrected.
-In addition to this, it is correction of a bug etc.

The download also includes a 16-page readme that tries to describe, in English, various functions/features of AppShelf. Since playing with the beta version a lot this afternoon, I have not seen any bugs or issues yet on my TX. Also, I haven't noticed a big change in functioning either.

In short, here's the feature list that matters to us:
- New version of extensions (the widget like thingys ) with more functions
- Several bug fixes
- Better support for Palm models, such as the built-in function to map it self to the home hard button of the T|X and Treos.

This update comes a short time after the update of KeyQuick. H. Imazeki used to make software for Clies only, support for Palm models were after thoughts, but with the updates of Appshelf and Keyquick, he is targeting Palm devices after Sony discontinued the Clie line.

either way, i'm glad he's updated his software. the last time i remember there being an update was something around 2004 or 2005? it's been a while.

anyways, the updates are great for my Treo! no more fiddling around with the Home key to get Appshelf to load. sometimes i accidentally double-press the Home button when i'm in a rush, so it skips loading Appshelf and goes directly to the default Applications launcher.

AppShelf and KeyQuick are still unknowns. For some reason, they're more popular for former Clie users. I've shown these apps to other Palm users -- they're impressed, asked questions, but completely forget about the apps and go back to their own apps.

I guess it's a normal reaction similar to the Windows vs. Mac "problem." We tend to stay with what we're comfortable with, because everything works anyway.

Anyway, I'm glad to see AppShelf continually being developed! :)

I too am very glad to see AppShelf receiving some development attention. Maybe in the wrong thread but with all of you AppShelf users here, what is the best location for downloading AppShelf frames? Seems like there was a screenshot of a Vista one posted here once, but I can't seem to find many... (yes, I searched ;) )
