Any news on Palm compatability with MS Vista yet?
Has anybody tried the current Palm desktop with it?
I'll receive an update DVD for my PC soon, but I'm not very keen on experimenting with it and having to change back to XP... But I'm not in a hurry, I can wait!

Works with Palm Desktop but not Quick Install yet. In otherwords, no program installation. BlueTooth transfer or direct upload to a memory card will work though.

Thanks for the information and the link!
I think I will sit that out a bit then. I'm pretty happy with XP, but I got a free Vista upgrade with my PC. I need my Palm more then Vista!

This seems like a good time to remember Alex Pruss's MyInstall. Use a card reader to transfer the new application to the /MyInstall/ directory on the SD card, insert the card in your Palm, execute MyInstall, and with no further fuss the application is installed.

I know this is not the same as Palm software compatibility, but it will help while things come into alignment on that front.

From what I have been reading about the lack of drivers and loads of incompatible printers (even labeled Vista ready), the soonest I will consider will be sometime around Service Pack 2.

Just as a note of caution for those considering upgrading... Upgrading from XP to Vista voids your XP serial number. You can't revert to XP after upgrading to Vista. So, make sure everything works before you upgrade.

That's exactly why I started the thread. :D After what I heard here, I will definately wait till most compatability issues are solved before upgrading.
Thanks!

You've gotta be kidding! You mean if I install Vista, hate it, reformat, take out my non-volume license Windows XP CD, re-install, and go to activate it I'm going to be out of luck (even though I paid for XP)?

Well, MS reached a new low...

That is not true...the EULA says that if you use an upgrade version, then your license transfers to Vista. In otherwords, you cant have an installation of XP and have the upgrade version of Vista dual booting. They never said anything about key revocation. In fact, Vista doesnt even check for a valid installation key, as evidenced by the fact that it considers an unregistered copy of Vista as proof of a prior Windows installation. In otherwords, you can install the upgrade version of Vista as a clean install, not give a serial number, and then re-install Vista from within Vista, and it considers that a valid upgrade (and that is obviously not what it should do, but it does it nonetheless). Stop using Digg story titles as a valid source of information...

I'm not using Digg stories; I'm using what I've read about what they've done with WGA. You can indeed do what you've said: however, your XP license key does appear to get revoked by WGA when WGA checks for a valid Vista key. From what I've been reading, it is possible to downgrade, but you have to contact MS to do it.

Basicly, a more detiled description is that when you go to get software updates from Microsoft, it validates your current software, and expiring the key you upgraded from is part of that process. It makes sense, as you've transferred your license. As they don't have an automated way to go the other direction (expire Vista key and re-enable a disabled XP key), the other part of what I've read makes sense too... you have to get someone with authority to manually cancel the new Vista key and bring back the XP key.

However, using the unregistered Vista trick sounds like a useful workaround; no XP key to submit to WGA, so you get a clean install.
