Hello All,

I have an odd question. I play a game called Shadowfist, it's a collectable card game like Magic the gathering, or Pokemon.anyway. One of the sites that I visit has a 4 mb file that contains all of the card info, in an SQL file. He has made the SQL file freely downloadable, so that we can use it as we see fit.ok. Here is where it gets interesting. I am not a programmer, I do
know a little about databases and such, but the basic thing I want is to be able to access the data from that SQL file on my palm. I have a Clie, with a memory stick so the size is not a major concern, and since this is a static database, I do not need the ability to add more data to it from the palm side. I also don't need to be able to sync it to any form of external database as the info is pretty much static. Any idea's on how I can simply view, and maybe search and sort this file on my palm easily? If you are the
slightest bit interested in helping, the file and its online interface can be viewed from the site http://www.shadowfisthub.com it's the card database and deck database.

I guess since I am not a programmer, I may not know just how complex the task is.but it seems to me that the hard part is already done. The info has been entered and it is in sql format. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanx folks.. and take care.

And here it is ..... Shadowfist.PDB (in a zipped file).

It's in a MobileDB Lite PDB file format.

It you don't have MobileDB Lite, you can download it from here:

http://www.handmark.com/products/mobiledblite/

It's a freeware program.

Not everything formatted perfectly .. but it should still be usable.

I didn't know what the columns contained, so I just called them F01, F02, F03 ... Fnn.

The way I converted the SQL file ... is paste the info into an Excel Spread Sheet in a single very-wide column. Convert the column to multiple columns using Excels convert tool, with comma being the separator, and single-quote being the text delimiter.
Then save the Excel file as a .CSV file. Import it into MobileDB Lite's conversion tool. And woooolahhh ...... (no magic involved).

:D :D :D

I attached the file called shadowfist.zip to this reply ... although for some unknown reason, I don't see it when I browse this thread.

If you don't see it either ... let me know. I will contact ClieSource Forum monitors to see what I did wrong.

The "Attachment" box at the bottom of the editing window says my file is attached, so I don't have any idea why I am not seeing it ???

No, I don't see an attachment either. Maybe something is screwed up with the board. I could just give you my email address, if that would be easier. Also, thanx alot for your help. Now I have some direction to go in...

Just so that you guys know, all attachments have to be approved by mods before they appear in the thread.

Thanks... that explains why the attachment didn't appear.

Jason ... I will send you the file tonight.

Yes ... you will need MobileDB or MobileDB Lite to view the file.

MobileDB Lite is a freeware program, which you can download from the site I listed above, in an earlier reply.

The advantage of the full MobileDB program (which sells for $30) over MobileDB Lite (freeware) is MobileDB lets you edit the file on your PDA.

With MobileDB Lite, you can only edit files on your Windows PC, and then install them into your PDA.

The Lite version will let you view and sort data on your PDA ... just no editing.
