View Full Version : Belkin keyboard space bar, STILL

I'm pretty sure I've tried every one of the Belkin NX70 drivers as they've come out, and the space bar STILL barely ever registers. I continue to wonder whether this is a physical issue: I mean, maybe mine just is messed up. The delay on other keys is a pain in the neck but I can live with it. But I'm spending WAY to much time going over my notes and inserting spaces.

I'm also a tad worried about some weird files that showed up, apparently after I did the last install. Gibberish filenames, all 1K, and all alleging to be version 256.00...as if.

that might be from something else but it LOOKS like some kind of corrupted file, and I think it showed up with the latest driver (April 7).

Does anybody know if they're still working on improving this? The keyboard remains for me more trouble than it's worth, and, if it's still not really functional by the time the Stowaway comes out, I'll be ticked off, because then Imight as well just have waited.

I find my G700 usable and don't have near the spacebar problems others have reported. However, I would like to know if further development is taking place on this driver to improve speed and eliminate the Docs2Go crashing bug.

Anyone have info???

Cheers, Rich

Hi Rich!

I believe someone from Belkin said there would be a final release out shortly.

Thanks! Hopefully the final version will clear these things up.

I've got the spacebar problem as well. I don't think it's a hardware issue since the severity of the problem seems to differ with different driver versions.

For me, the latest version improved the spacebar issue significantly, but introduced the Docs to Go Fatal Alert error. The second to last version (the version posted on the Belkin site) causes no Docs to Go error, but key registrations seem much slower and the spacebar problem is much more pronounced.

Personally, I have begun to regret buying the G700. I type way too fast for it to be any use. Unless the final driver release (whenever that happens) makes a quantum leap in key registration speed, which I'm doubtful of, I'm going to move to the Stowaway.

Thanks for the reply. What source do you have for your 'shortly' reply? I haven't seen any mention of any further development since the latest revision.

Rich

p.s. I do find the keyboard useful but would like to see the Docs2Go error gone since D2G is the app I use the KB with most.

In the aftermath, would you recommend buying the G700? Everyone seems to have complaints. I must say I'm a bit swayed by the ability to plug in the Clie while typing, however all the deal with new drivers etc is really making me look the other way.

I've got an SL10. Do you recommend this keyboard or should i keep away?

I know that I read it in one of the threads that Belkin would have a final driver out very shortly. I don't which one it was though. I know there is one gent who works for Belkin and frequents the forums.

The drivers are for it to work with the NX. It works fine for other Clie's.

Have you tried to press the spacebar on the left side? It should work fine then.

Where do you get the driver? Is it free?

Pruss: the spacebar seems to work on the left side and even occasionally on the right side. But it obviously SHOULD work on both, if there's going to be a space bar big enough to accomodate both thumbs (and I wouldn't have bought it if there hadn't been one). After forty years of touch typing, I'm not going to change my ingrained habits; and, indeed, it's Belkin's responsibility to accomodate standard typists, not the other way around.

Ye i have the Belkin G700 and it seem the Space bar only registers when you touch it in the center. I had a habit of pressing it on the right side with my right thumb and had to develop the habit of pressing it in the mid section. I dont think it is a software problem but just where Belkin put the senser.
