Hi all,
Have just purchased a Palm TX, I have had a previous experience with a lifedrive.
I have put all my documents and ebooks etc on the TX which has a 4gb SD Card.
The problem is first installing all my documents etc, then trying to find them,
Have installed Drive mode, but there is no dedicated file explorer which makes it hard to add files in a correct folder structure.
I am looking at purchasing a lifedrive on ebay..am I going backwards or is this a good move.
My PDA has my life on it, I did have a Pocket PC but found the screen to small for reading documents etc.
PLease help, does the lifedrive still have lots of bugs and lag or can this now be fixed with addons
Please give me loads of replies so I can make up my mind
Thanks for your time

LIfe drive is a very bad idea for you.
- Less battery life than TX
- A loooot slower to use because of badly designed memory structure/hard drive
- A loooot more fragile, even to micro shocks and vibrations because of hard drive
- Big
- Heavy
- It will absolutely not solve your difficulty to manage your files, on the contrary, because the hard drive is internal and connexion is only USB 1, so veeeeerrrrrryyyyyyyy sssslllllllooooooowwwwww. With TX, you can plug your SD directly to any USB 2 card reader, it's a lot faster !
- Finally, it's an abandonned model

The Lifedrive is USB 2.0
You can connect the SD from a Lifedrive just as easy as a TX.
The battery time on almost all handhelds while under constant wifi use is always low.
I don't think it’s big and heavy at all. It feels firm and solid.
I have dropped it twice and did no damage to the Microdrive. Any impact that would damage the Microdrive is likely to break other components of the LifeDrive even if it was a Flash drive.
As far as abandon I speak for all us CLIE owners and say "HA". It was Sony that made the device good but it was us at 1src and other forums that made it last even to this day.
The second we get Linux working flawlessly on this thing your gona regret not having one. I hope for the day I can get a bootable Linux image on a CF card and stick it right in my LifeDrive for the best dang handheld experience next to hand..... Well you know.
And the last complaint next to lag, witch I don't even think is that big of a deal when the amount of apps I can hold on this thing is considered, is the lack of a camera. I have several digital cameras that are 1 to 6 mega pixels and use an SD card. There like calculators now. Every time I sign up for a credit card or walk in a store someone gives me one. If I have one of them with me, which I always do because there in everything now, I just transfer the images to my LifeDrive like the thing was ment to do. I always have my cell phone on me and it has Bluetooth. I take a pic with it and Bluetooth it over to the LifeDrive. Where I can hold 3.8G's worth.
I love my LifeDrive and I'm sure the T|X is great too!

Any impact that would damage the Microdrive is likely to break other components of the LifeDrive even if it was a Flash drive. From my reading of the Hitachi Microdrive spec sheet, it depends. If the drive is parked, I agree that any drop that would damage the drive would likely damage something else also. However, if the drive is active a typical drop could damage it.

Don't use a Microdrive then. Flash card surgery is the way to go. My old "LifeFlash" was quick and had great battery life. However, it was still prone to slight lags (maybe Palm OS still thinks it's on a HD?) and was somewhat unstable. Bluetooth performance was shotty as well. Got a TX to replace it in the end, but I'm going to miss the USB 2.0!

The LifeDrive with all of Dmitry's enhancements makes it an OUTSTANDING PDA! :)
I trimmed down the ROM for less resets to free up memory. (nuROM)
prevent stuff from loading in the first place (uncache)
I have virtually 256MB of RAM, with a 16GB CF card, no hard drive (PowerDrive)
Increased speed with slower apps (WarpSpeed)
An amazing GUI experience (skinUI)
Beautiful fonts (FontSmoother - by Pruss)
Crazy macros and additional functionality added to all hard buttons (Apt. by Lee Wilmot)
Read/Write to higher capacity SD cards (Dmitry's SD)
there are other mods too like cleanstart, NVBackup that also has helped me to keep the machine stable.
Since I read and even edit a large number of documents, I enjoy having all the room in memory and storage, and the large screen.
However, it isn't thin in the slightest and mostly resembles a brick. :) But it's sturdy and shiney and can take my quickie voice notes at meetings.
That's it from a die-hard. :)
