How long does the TX battery last before it needs replacing? My friend estimates around two years. My zire 72 battery lost a lot of power after only 1 year.

Is it difficult to replace by yourself from the batteries on ebay? I tried replacing it myself for the zire 72 but ended up breaking the camera and infra red. The tungsten T1 however, was much much easier and only took 15 minutes.

You are forwarned! As far as I can see is that it is highly recommended that a professional attempts this battery change. However the z-71 is easier to fix.

Battery life does deteriorate over time. Your palm uses a lithium-ion Polymer battery which does pack a lot of power in a very small package. These batteries despite the claim of some, DO lose capacity over time. One year is more than enough time to incur a noticeable loss in capacity.

NEVER attempt to replace the battery unless you are totally sure of your skills.
I would be more than happy to replace batteries for a small fee.
$10 seems reasonable, plus return shipping of course.
You supply your own battery or give me the money to buy it for you.
I have an A.A.S. in Electronic engineering,
I am pretty good at soldering, I have installed PS2 Mod-chips so palm button repairs and battery replacements are child's play.

If anyone wants a battery replaced let me know what model you have and I will let you know whether I can do it for you.

I recommend that you don't use a battery with a larger capacity than the original. I replaced the standard 850mAh battery in my Tungsten E with a 1400mAh battery and it was too thick so the back bulges a bit. It looks a tad bit janky (if thats a word), but my battery last more than twice as long since my old battery wasn't new. I read ebooks for 8 hours at a stretch so I don't mind. It could however cause the case to crack after some time, probably not but it could.

Refurbished z71 are still for sale, around $160

With a 90 day guarantee...I wonder if there are any refurbished z-72 around?

Basically a decision to repair a zire or whatever you need to know what is available. Eventually remanufactured zires may not be offered, but some of the repair guys will offer a model fixed but not paid for by customer.
