Hi

I currently use Versamail and whilst its not a bad email client for the palm it can be sooo slow, possibly my major gribe with it is the speed. Caching seems to seriously effect it.

I've tried snappermail and i'm quite impressed - its quite a bit uglier than versamail but it appears more versatile (except for the lack of activesync) and more importantly its very fast. But that comes at a cost, 49$ (which is what I would need for my gmail account) or $59 to support imap seems quite a lot of money.

What are other's favourite email clients and why?

Snapper here ;)
I already use it since my T3, carried it over to 680.
Personally I do not understand why you say it is 'ugly' compared to Versamail.
Another big additional advantage is it can store messages on SD card (which VM can not do)

If you have a Treo, you could also consider Chattermail.

Going into an email snapper looks good, its that list of emails I think looks messy in comparison to versamail. But it is quick which versamail isn't.

Are these the only 2 viable email solutions? I'll check Chatter but I have a tx.

Then don't bother about Chatter. It might not even work.

But yes, Snapper is your only viable alternative for Versamail. There are some others but they are not even approaching the feature set Versamail has, let be Snapper.

I am sure others will chime in to correct me in case I overlooked something.

There are 2 list views in SnapperMail. The cleaner look, IMO, comes with the "FingerNAV" view. Although I don't tend to use my finger to navigate (don't need to on the Treo), I find that view nicer to look at; less cluttered. See them both here: http://www.snappermail.com/wireless/email/features.cfm

Here's some frank advice from my experience: If you buy Snapper like I did, find a reliable backup program (I highly recommend NVBackup) and backup as frequently as you check your email. It has an weird NVFS instability that has remained unfixed that you should be aware of, that at worst can corrupt your entire RAM. I use Snapper heavily and transfer large attachments and its under that heavy usage it flakes out. Light usage is normally stable.

The developer has been trying to fix this bug for many, many, many months still with no projected completion date, despite many people asking. To his credit, he's being honest. In the meantime, if your RAM is corrupted, a hard reset is your only solution and you can only restore with files not in RAM at the time the bug strikes. These are the instructions given to me from Snapper's tech support.

I use Snapper because it manages my IMAP accounts quite well...the times it doesn't crash of course.

I use Agendus mail. It is very contented by program.
