Does anyone know if it's possible to use Sony Clie PEG-UX50/U as a VoIP phone?

Yes, it is. But with no great results...Articulation does it, you have to check the forums on its web, there's a post about CLIEs cause its compability issue. I've tried it, and I can hear the other people, but they can't hear me well...So...
Check this:

Hi there, I'm looking after any news on it, but it doesn't. So...Hampthonsoftware is thinking on making Articulation's able to work over BT Heathsets...but it needs to softick's audio getaway to work over SOC profile (this is the normal one-ear BT headsets for all mobile-phones)...No news from any parts...
Mmm...but, did anyone try to pair a BT headsets to UX50, and been able to record sound or something...?

mmm...no answers?
nobody has a 'BT handsfree' to just check the pairing?
pleaseeeeeee

I think one of the major problems with VoIP and Clie's was that Sony used a proprietary sound engine for their audio, thus general Palm audio apps do not work correctly.

Please feel free to correct me if the above is wrong ;)

i tried to pair my plantronics 645 with ux50.
its useless without softick a2dp audio support, and after installing, you can playback sound via the earphone (using ptunes and tcpmp. not working with internal player).
remember that once thay paired, you wont be able to connect the net, since only bt and wifi cant work together, and bt on ux doesnt support more then one connection at a time.

eva-01

so your saying that the ux can connect to bluetooth headphones using softick a2dp program?

and here i was thinking it wasn't possible - i thought the ux didn't support a2dp

golalmo
02-14-2007, 05:22 AM
softick add a2dp support to your handheld.
i dont know about headphones since i just use my handsfree earphone.

eva-01
02-14-2007, 05:26 AM
sorry to go off topic but again, i didn't think that the ux could support bluetooth headphones, so i went to the softick website and it says that the ux is NOT SUPPORTED YET

golalmo could you confirm that it does work, this would be ground breaking stuff.

back on topic, from reading previous posts, it seems that you can get the ux to work as a voip phone but the audio quality is not great...

Mmm...this is gettin hot as I wish..hehehe

Perfect! I'm with eva-01, golalmo, could you confirm that? Are you able to pair that, and listen to music? Could you try to RECORD anything?

I mean: the main problem with Articulation was I CAN hear pretty good the other part, but they hear me too bad, cause the sound system on CLIEs, that won´t make you able to speak and hear at time. So you have to press a button anytime you want to talk, like a 'Walkie-talkie'. I thought this problem could be solved using a BT Hansfree, so...that's what I'm expecting here!

And, to golalmo: I don't know why you say to pair more than one thing to BT. You only have to pair the handsfree, and conect Voip by WiFi...Does the UX cannot do that?

And thanx for all the interest and effort!!

Mmm...ok, I think I've just understood the last thing, golalmo...Thats quite disturbing...
Are you sure on that?

Are you saying that the UX does work on VoIP, just not as well as you had hoped?

sportfisio
02-14-2007, 04:09 PM
Yes!Of course! I've said that before! With "articulation", and a free-provider, as Voicecheap account, I MADE IT WORK!
But I repeat: I can hear pretty well, but they cannot...

chacalau

just to throw in my two cents, i tried articulation on my UX50, and couldn't get it to work.
I hope someone can point out the right way to get it working. Even if the quality is not great i would still be interested to "see" it with my own two ears.

I`ve just posted the link above, chacalau, check this:
http://www.hamptonsoftware.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?b-art_prob/m-1156456786/s-60/
And I recommend voicecheap.com, cause its free (here in Europe, I don't know in the States), and it works with articulation.
Check it

i didnt said anything about voip on ux50.
just said that bluetooth earplug (handsfree) does work for listening to music (one ear only) after installing softick a2dp.
i never been able to run voip application on the ux properly.

sportfisio
02-15-2007, 06:30 AM
Ok, I was waiting to know that!great!
I mean: I can say for sure I have articulation working Voip with my UX50, and voicecheap.com account, try the link posted before!
I just want to know if the BT earplug can solve the problem on listenin/speaking that CLIE has built on.
Are you able to record via BT earplug?
Are you still on UX CAN't work BT and WiFi at time? Sure on that?
Thanks golalmo, you're making me dream!

golalmo
02-15-2007, 06:46 AM
well, keep on dreaming, dude.
ux50 does not support BT+wifi, nor 2 BT connections at same time.
thats eliminate the ability to use bt headset while using the net.
the ux50 audio recorder wont work via bluetooth and so all the other builtin multimedia applications.

Umm...okay, many thanks for the info! How disgusting...Mmm...any ideas or new options on that? Is anybody trying articulation and making it work decently on UX?

chacalau
02-15-2007, 07:28 AM
Thanks sportfisio,

i'm in Australia, where in Europe are you?

i've actually been watching and contributing to this thread (pretty sure mine is the most recent posting), either way i've got Articulation and its not working at all.

I currently have version 1.5b1301.
Is there another version i should have?

when i load it, the echo test on the first page causes a fatal error / reset.
If i skip the echo test and get to the number-pad screen, i can connect to my voip provider but when i dial a number and it rings, i get another fatal error.

Hi, chacalau, I'm from Spain ;)
Mmm...I've been trying the versions for clie, and right now I have 1.4cl1912...And I think I have older versions. Maybe your version does not work cause the last versions are developed for TH55, and the first ones were for UX50...Maybe you have another app-incompability, I don`t know...
If I can, I'll upload the different versions, so you can try them, ok?
And remember to check articualtion's web, or pdf file to check the supported voip provider, and corect setup, maybe that could be the fatal error...

wats the point if the people you are talking to can't hear you?

chacalau
02-15-2007, 03:50 PM
why try it? hmmm, well... i guess i'm curious about it. the technology, the way it works / doesn't work, the limitations of my beloved Clie, the opportunity to help contribute to the discussion about making it work.

whats the general concensus... is it "possible" to get "acceptable use" standard voip functionality from the UX50? if so, whats the path?

HamptonSoftware is currently working on 1.5 Clié version, that should improve significally VOIP exeprience on Ux. Keep in touch with Forum>Support>Clié section for a couple of weeks.

Hello everyone....

I was interested in VOIP on the UX50, and I got it working! Everything works perfect!
I am using this version of Articulation (http://www.hamptonsoftware.co.uk/articulation/devpreview/Articulation_Clie.zip?PHPSESSID=4ed18042f2295693d42ff770830261b7)
With Gizmo. I used proxy01.sipphone.com for the Domain and Server, and my password and number for username/password. I had to make sure it didn't say login in, and I was able to dial! Gizmo has some free min. to test it.

Hi dragonsgames!So...you mean there was a PERFECT working?? With perfect sended/received sound? No delay? No static noise?
Mmm..and could you explain that "gizmo" clue? Cause with gizmo you can only call to another Gizmo users...right? Could them hear you right?
Nice work! Keep on investigatin!
Thank u!

dragonsgames

It was working great It wasn't PERFECT sound, but it sounded like what would come out of the voice recorder. No delay. Gizmo makes calls to others for free, but you can pay a small fee call others. I could hear them right.

sportfisio
02-25-2007, 02:32 PM
Wooow! Thanx! I've just downloaded it, and make my girlfriend do it, and I'm gonna try today! So...but you have to speak pressing the jog button, right?

Maybe it was the provider, but with my account on voipcheap.com, they CANT hear me to keep a good conversation...
Good stuff!

dragonsgames
02-25-2007, 03:08 PM
No, I don't need to hold down the Jog Button...

Maybe it is the provider... I'm not sure.

sportfisio
02-26-2007, 10:32 AM
Mmm...just tryed that, and not really working for me...
So, you call to a gizmo contact, and he/she can hear you right, you can hear him/her right, and dont have to press the jog button to talk?
I cant do ANYthing of those! Could you tell me how, please?
Thanx for all!

I called a friend who was sitting right next to me, and I had him call me with my Clie and I used his phone. It sounded like the voice recorder.

In Account Settings, I named it Gizmo, have server/gizmo proxy01.sipphone.com
Display (Name, you can choose it)
User (your Gizmo number, given when you create an account)
Password (Gizmo Password)
Sign in (unchecked)
I have the Phone Settings -> Codec set to GSM
In NAT Settings, I have the SIP Port 5060 and RTP Port 5000. IP Address is left empty.
Depending on your router, your settings might be different.

WiFi, although I have tested it with Bluetooth, and it still works. (almost as well too)

Nice concept, the UX50 might not be the most intuitive device to use for VoIP, though.

So, finally, is it working fine? Sportfisio, I am from Spain too (I know you from another forum). I think that if it is possible to use VoIP on our Clies we never wont have to change them...

Hi all

I ve been testing the program on my TH55 and Ive got something!
I have been talking with my brother by articulation/gizmo. BUT it only works when I call. When my brother called me it didnt work. It is possible to be my fault. I am using a FON router and I dont know about its NAT configuration...

This software is just what I needed. Too bad the UX50 can't use the bt or wifi at the same time. That way, I could use my bt headset (or is there a hack for have both on at the same time?) Wow, that'll kill you battery in no time. :)

To the last post, if you have Gizmo Project installed on your computer, you should be able to copy the settings from it to your Clie.

Or your going to have to take a crash course in "punching holes" in your firewall.

Hardware? For this thing? I doubt it. Software maybe the only way to go.

Nope - the USB port on your UX is only good for bable communication to the host PC. Sorry.

Which version of SAG is working with the UX?

I have the Siemens HHB-750 which support the A2DP, but keep getting weird errors (IHC & stuff...)

Thanks in advance
