View Full Version : Playing Audio from Compact Flash Card
OK... I've searched to see if this was already answered, but the inability to search for "CF" and the ungodly length of the main CF thread make it prohibitive.
I've got the new CF driver (all registered proper) and a 512MB card loaded with audio files in the same nested directories as on my MemoryStick. But when I go the Audio Player app, it only sees the MemoryStick.
How do I point it at the CF card's audio tracks?
TIA!

Maskerading mode hides your MS from all applications. Sony applications will only work if it has been enabled

Trick Mode
1. Mount MS
2. Enter MS Masquerading mode.
3. Remove MS.
4. Mount CF
5. TURN POWER OFF -- this step is critical
6. Insert MS -- wait until it stops reading and beeps!
7. Turn Power on (CF will now appear as ms to native apps but you can once again access ms).
You may need the MS Pro patch installed to take full advantage of what now is known as the TRICK mode :).
works like a charm.
classic case of rtfm, huh?

I don't think the trick mode was in the manual. It was discovered by an industrious individual ;)!

I've been keeping busy changing 'CF' to 'Compact Flash' in all the thread titles, simply because of that "search has to be three or more letters" problem . . . there doesn't appear to be a 'work around'. :)
I don't like searches that turn up nothing when we all know there's LOTS of info there. You know? ;) I think a lot of people haven't even noticed the CF forum.

Well some can't see past their nose :D! Thank you for trying to keep things organized. Yepper, I have encoutered the 3 letter search issue before. It was something simple like maybe MP3? I don't remember exactly, then again my memory doesn't function like it used to :)!
Just wanted to let you know that some do appreciate your efforts and that it doesn't go un-noticed, Best regards! ! !

That goes double. You're doing a great job rose! It's nice to have somebody who keeps things tidy in our little micro-cosmos, when you see the world around you falling into pieces ;)

Is it true that there is some sort of limit (e.g. 128mb) of mp3s that you can put on the cf card?

Do you need the ms pro patch even though you dont have an ms pro stick. Shoould I install the patch if I just have a 128 mb patch?

If you DON'T have an MS Pro stick you can still install the PATCH.
But it seems that in order to take advantage of this trick AND PLAY the audio tracks on the CF the MS Pro Patch MUST be installed.
I am tempted, but not, I still have NOT installed the patch.

I don't think there's a limit, I've about 350MB of MP3s in my CF512 sandisk, and able to play every one of it.

Me neither :)!
If I do, I might put it in Flash ROM along with the CF driver, maybe...

I'd rather not download the patch so I dont waste any unnecessary ram, but I intend to buy the compact flash driver (notice I didnt use "CF" to save our moderator work) to store and play mp3s. Does anyone know if eruware is addressing this issue regarding having to use the ms pro patch and if so how close are they to resolving this issue?

They are aware of it & I imagine are working it out or through...
but I have not heard anything official...
BUT it is good news that a PATCH actually helped us CF Driver users instead of HINDER us.

I tried the "Trick" mode as N2ifp outlined.
My songs are listed as Magnetic Fields songs but when I play them the Beatles are singing. (I have Mag Fields and Beatles mp3s on the Compact Flash so far).
Is this resolved by MS Pro patch?
I put mp3s there from my memory stick with clie files - a scary process. The screen was having a seiure while they transferred.

And how can I get logged in?
When I go the the main page it recognizes me, but out here in Compact Flash land this site does not recognize me.
I even put my user name and password in - it does not help.

I meant "guest" not unregistered.
Is this a bug in the site?

okay - now I accessed this thread directly from the main page and now it recognizes me.
Sorry for going off topic, I am a little frustrated. I am willing to work at figuring out the Compact Flash storage driver, but did not realize I needed to invest time to figure out this site.

Howdy! I bought my NX60 4 days ago and love it!:D
The CF driver cinched it. I have the driver and a CF card. I have tried the "trick mode" and installed MS Pro patch. I still can't seem to find the MP3s. I find them under Clie files but not under the audio player.
Any ideas? All of them are from cds converted with dbpowerAmp as MusicMatch files(I have dial up so it takes forever to download songs). I also use the CF card writer.
Of course if I can make this work I hear that 1 GB CF card calling my name. Must have cable...
Any ideas are appreciated.

my mp3's are via cd's/Music match also, once I got them in the MSAUDIO folder it worked fine (of course my Clie is wearing "the patch")

Thanks for your reply. I have tried that. I don't have an MSaudio file on my MS or CF do I just create one?

If you want to play MP3's and Video's in the Trick mode, yes the MS Pro patch for some unknown reason to me, makes it work. Again this only for multimedia in the Trick Mode :).

Okay, there is confusion over MP3's. In Clie files you see a File Name, in the Audio Player, it looks inside the file for the name. So when MP3's are created, most MP3' rippers download the contant from the interent and encode the info inside the MP3 audio file for it to be displayed.
Of course it also has to be in the right folder too.
/Palm/Programs/MSAudio
Nornally the Audio Player app should create it, but yes you can do it manually too.

I wanted to confirm that in my testing, the Audio Player didn't play MP3s loaded on the Compact Flash card until the MS Pro update patch was installed. Don't know why the two would be related, but the Audio Player failed to play the files (though it could "see" that they were installed on card) before installing the patch.
The Audio Player complained that the media was locked or the file format of the MP3s wasn't supported by the application. Most peculiar!

I have an NX70 without the MS Pro patch and can play MP3s loaded onto my 512mb CF card no problem.
Are you sure that you are not trying to play ATRAC3 files?
