View Full Version : Wanted: utility/app

It would be nice if someone could program a utility/app that clears Blazer's history and cookies.

01-19-2007, 08:33 AM
I second that motion, but only the history...

How about a DA? that would be good! It would be really simple, as Blazer stores them in Databases, so you would just have to delete them... very quick.

When you say history, do you mean like the autofill? I like that, wouldn't appreciate someone deleting that.

04-12-2007, 09:20 PM
Just tried BlazerDA. It freaked me out! I was expecting some kind of interface to start the delete, but woops there it was... done on launch! hmm... that just freaks me out a bit. Here's why...

I have a lot (a lot) of DAs. If I were to overshoot a little in metaDA, I could delete my web history without warning. Could result in a lot of wasted time.

I wonder if it could pop up a list of all the Blazer dbs that you can harmlessly delete. Then allow you to select the ones you want to delete with checkboxes (maybe a 'select all' option) and initiate the delete yourself. This would at least give you opportunity to dismiss an accidental click and the freedom to delete as much or as little as you want. Just a thought.
:)

04-17-2007, 04:28 PM
He he, I've overshot it many times in MetaDA and deleted all my stuff :D

..which is why I took your suggestion (to an extent)

I don't have enough time to release it now, but I will later.

I love my mom~ I tried the new and improved BlazerDA. Nice work.

I did have two issues I wanted to mention:

[1] Both 'URL Autofill' and 'Field Autofill' delete the 'Field Autofill' db (URL Autofill db does not get deleted)
[2] Sometimes the 'Done' button stays on the screen after the da is closed

Great little tool! Thanks.

Now that you mentioned it I'm noticing #1 but not #2.

juggernaut#2
04-19-2007, 03:11 AM
Which one do you prefer?
clearly a īlistīdatabase. why? because
- i donīt like the organizing of bookmarks within blazer,
- i want to be able to do about my palm-bookmarks on my desktop (e.g. edit or copy&paste īem from my real browser), īlistpcīallows me to do just that,
- having a central bookmark database would enable me to use them with different browsers on my palm ! (if a DA would read blazerīs bookmarks anyway there would be no real advantage over just startig blazer itself ...)

īdaURLī (already mentioned here) allows to define the default browser to open bookmarks with, and īUrlMrDAī (part of īUrlMgrī) allows this even for every single bookmark, problem with both of them is that you have to edit those bookmarks on the palm (see above).

I love my mom
04-19-2007, 07:59 AM
I guess a list database it is then. I might add the option to import Blazer's bookmarks. What format are the bookmarks going to be in? Just the web address? or a title telling which it is?

Tis why I was going with Blazer, it's universal.

I fixed BlazerDA. You can get the new version here (http://programmerbygrace.com/utilities.html)

Ok, here's what I can swing:

I can't do login info because I'm not directly handling the webpage. You could also have these optional fields:

Display name (i.e. Google instead of http://www.google.com/pda)
Icon (nvm...)
Note field (where you can put reminders or something)
Anything else you can think of

BTW, I'd like to thank you for your interest in BlazerDA. I got a couple hundred downloads after releasing it yesterday.

Ok, here's what I can swing:
field 1: URL
field 2: browser
I can't do login info because I'm not directly handling the webpage. oh, sure, it wasnīt meant to mean that; it was just to show how and why i use īlistī rather than the normal bookmark features. what you can swing is just fine.

You could also have these optional fields:
Display name (i.e. Google instead of http://www.google.com/pda)
Icon (nvm...)
Note field (where you can put reminders or something)
Anything else you can think of
well, īlistī only supports two fields and a note field, doesnīt it? one of them sure has to contain the URL, because i guess you donīt want to parse the note-field for something looking like an URL inside all the gibberish that one might have there. the second field can contain anything, youīre right. i use it for a short īdisplayī name since some URLs are just about the same for the first 20something characters and therefore hard to decipher on the small screen.

iīll mail you my database to the email contained in your sig, i will just have to get rid of the note-field first ;)

I love my mom
04-19-2007, 02:08 PM
Great. I understand you were just making suggestions ;)

As for the three optional fields, I meant that you could use the notes field for either of them. For example, if you put text in the notes field, I would display that text (you could use that text as a display name or a reminder), but if you put a number in that field (in text format of course, such as 1005) I would display the corresponding icon instead of text (or text and an icon).

So a database might look something like this:

field 1: http://programmerbygrace.com
field 2: Netfront
field 3: Best.Site.Ever+1001

and be displayed something like this:

(icon 1001) Best Site Ever

:D

As for the three optional fields, I meant that you could use the notes field for either of them.
now, THAT would be real cool !!

i am normally not the type for icons, but this way one could have the name displayed plus a little icon hinting at which browser is set ! NICE ! or have the login information displayed just before clicking on the link, so one remembers and doesnīt have to search for it, yeah, nice... i like the idea

but where does that icon "1005" come from?

I love my mom
04-19-2007, 02:45 PM
I haven't gotten that far, but i have several options. I could use a resource database like ZLauncher icon database. I could build the icons directly into the DA, with the option of importing more.

I'm debating an accompanying application for configuration, is this more trouble than you wish to go to? Of course if I did do that, you wouldn't HAVE todo any configuration, it's just there as a treat.

juggernaut#2
04-19-2007, 02:56 PM
I could use a resource database ... oh, i see. i have two of these, ICONS-DATEBK6 and DATASHIELD-ICONS, both are editable with iconmgr 1.6.

I'm debating an accompanying application for configuration, is this more trouble than you wish to go to? you mean just as metaview has done it for his īplayercontrolDAī? no problem, thereīs enough room in prefs :)

I've gotten to the point when I need to know what you would like me todo with the information in the notes field. If you would like me to do something like what I mentioned a couple posts up, I need some specs, such as what icon database you would like to use (or configurable)

Then again you can just leave it up to me and be suprised...I love doing that too :D

juggernaut#2
04-23-2007, 02:33 AM
(or configurable)
itīs always nice to configure something, thatīs why we like our palms so much, isnīt it :)
just considering, not asking... letīs see... a īlistī db has got this information:
1) "category" -> this could be used to display sort of a tree with a little "+" (yeah, i am already spoiled by windoze...) to the user because screen real estate on a palm, even a TX, ist somewhat limited and a bookmark database tends to get bigger and bigger,
2) "field1" -> contains the URL, does not need to be displayed,
3) "field2" -> contains the display or short name, should be displayed,
4) "notes" -> contains
a) the browser to open the URL with (maybe only if not standard, i.e. use blazer as a standard but use netfront if defined),
b) icon, maybe icon number + name of database containing the icon, leave it up the user if she/he wants to just display an icon for the browser used or whatever or not have icons displayed at all (see 1, above)
c) all sorts of more information, like login or whatever, no need to fiddle with that.
... and finally a button to jump not to the URL but to īlistī with that db open just in case i donīt want to surf but edit that entry :)

but then again, i gotta a lot of faith in you, thatīs why this ...
Then again you can just leave it up to me and be suprised...I love doing that too :D... would be fine also :)

I've got a beta of UrlDA :) It is just the first version, it's not configurable. All you need is a List (http://www.lowtek.ca/list/?page_id=6) database called Bookmarks, with the name you want to be displayed in the first field, and the url in the second field. The notes field is not yet used. Then run UrlDA, select the item you want from the list, tap go, and the URL will open in Blazer.

For Advanced Users (although basic users can't hurt anything):
All a list database is is several NULL terminated strings in a record. So if you don't want to risk stability problems with List, you can use bird. Create a database and name it Bookmarks. Then for every URL you want, create a record. Type in the the display name, and end it with a NULL character (hex 00). Then immediately on the next space type the URL and end it with a NULL character. The same thing for the notes field. Then again you could always just use List :) Looks something like this:

http://programmerbygrace.com/images/Bird.png

Download here (http://programmerbygrace.com/downloads/UrlDA.PRC)

you were faster than I :)

As far as I can tell from 10 minutes of testing (gotta go now), basic function works as advertised :). It opens the database nicely, displays and there you go. A few things I noticed though:
It will not go away on taps outside itīs area or presses on the īhomeī button (unlike ther DAīs ),
It will pull out the DIA if collapsed on startup,
Two subsequent presses on the īcenterī button will not open the URL, you have to do a īrightī press before.
It will not check if blazer is already started, but re-start it.

Are you going to make the screen, well, bigger?
But anyway, thx a lot, itīs useful already, I love it !!

Yes, those are some first version quirks. If you hang tight a little bit later they'll be fixed.

If you hang tight a little bit later they'll be fixed. Iīll hang on tighter than you ever thought I would :)
I did a little more testing and until now Iīve not come across anything concerning the getting/displaying of URLīs form the īlistī database, so that part of the DA seems to be working quite fine. The DIA and the screen thing can wait, the restarting is only going to be annoying with blazer (as netfront or xiino open much faster), but having no way out of escaping once started is, say, inconvinient :)

You didnīt make up your mind yet if it should be named "URL DA" or "Bookmark DA" ... ;)

Well I could release now, but I want to get some more browsers in first. I've got Netfront and Blazer. What other options would you like?Well, those two are the ones I use. I tried Xiino, which looks nice also, and I sure would like to try PicselBrowser if I just could figure out how to use it :)
It sure has the biggest īwow-effectī of all browsers I know. I donīt use Opera, though, and I donīt think itīs going to be easy to integrate, since itīs not startable with an URL. I tried Universe quite a few times and it looks promising, but at this time not quite as stable. But since it allows for tabbed browsing it might be the one to be in future.

Do you want to be able to select the bookmarks by category?I sure would like to be able to do that !

A tree with "plusses" to expand and collapse, just like windows ... a little eye-candy :)

Can't help you with PicselBrowser. But I did implement Xiino. So now I've got, Netfront, Xiino, and Blazer. The database format looks like this:

Field 1: Display Name
Field 2: URL
Field 3: Browser

I'll be adding categories next. But here's the current release.

The changes since the first version:
- you can exit now :D
- Supports different browsers
- The DIA is adjustable

Perhaps the ability to import favorites already created in the other browsers into the data base should be added as a feature?

Thanks for trying. Opera Mini has a life on its own, apparently. It accepts inputs from Mykbd macros, though (I can paste my login and password sending macros), but I am not sure it can help you. I guess Mykbd sends the letters as if they were typed.

Does anyone have this working successfully on their 700?

I am using PetitLaunch as well as FlexButton and no matter where I click, the DA just disappears and nothing launches. I've downloaded the latest version to no avail.

My List Bookmarks DB looks like this:

Name: 1src
URL: www.1src.com/mobile
Note: Blazer

I only have Blazer installed.

Anyone experiencing this?

I used the download link in your original posting (is there any other?), and I donīt download to the device, which is a TX, directly. I tried to hotsync it, to transfer it via card and use AutoMyInstall.

It still flees every action of the user :). Itīs size is 2.496 bytes and it has been created on Sat 28-04-2007, 21:46. BTW, it might come in handy to have a version number to distinguish one version from the other

@CD: ILMM has changed CID from īDA09ī to īDA11ī in between, maybe thatīs why you got problems. My hotsync-log reads like this (translated):
-- WARNING: Possible Problem with Overwriting the database. Database with Creator ID 0x44413131 being saved to D:\Palm\BehreO\Backup\UrlDA.PRC. The database contained data from the databse with the Creator-ID 0x44413039

Before your posting, no.
I downloaded a fresh copy off your website and installed it through hotsync, having deleted the old version first. It displays everything just like your first version, but as soon as one taps or presses, it disappears.
I use metaDA as my launcher, which is itself being launched by myKBD.

Me, too, I have no idea whatīs going on ...
Any chance to upload a slightly changed version, say, renamed to URLDA2.PRC or something?

05-02-2007, 02:11 PM
ILMM, Iīm sorry to be such a nerd but it still doesnīt work, it still flees every breath that I take. I can hardly breethe not to have it disappear right away.

I dunno, maybe I donīt get it or something but I donīt even know where to look for or what to do. I got that bookmark-file, all right, I deleted the old version before I installed the new one, all right, but whenever I start it it displays my bookmarks and then - well, it flees.

The new URLDA2.PRC was to make sure itīs not being cached or whatever, but itīs not. I didnīt even find some leftover pref or such with "Cleanup", so I do really donīt know what I should do or tell you in order to track that one down. So what can I tell?
Using a TX, LauncherX, myKBD and MetaDA ... all other DAīs work just fine, even your first version did (the one that did not disappear...)

But I sure wouldīve liked to use this one...

EDIT: I just downloaded BlazerDA from your site, installed it and it works fine. I can press the buttons with my stylus or use them with the 5nav. Tapping outside doesnīt dismiss it, though. Are there any differences in the way URLDA and BLAZERDA handle screen display?

I love my mom
05-02-2007, 04:49 PM
Yes, BlazerDA doesn't handle screen taps. And UrlDA only handles them outside the bounds of the form...or it's supposed too. I can't understand why it works on my TX but doesn't want to cooperate on yours.

I may have found something, try this one...

http://programmerbygrace.com/downloads/UrlDA.prc

...and let me know how it goes.

still vanishes on the 700...

I do notice however, that the DA responds a bit differently than the last version. Unlike before, now, when launched, I can actually hit the up key and highlight an item in the list. Pressing the middle button also selects or deselects an item in the list BUT if I press "Goto" the phone resets. I get a Fatal Exception using PetitLauncher or FlexButton.

BINGO ! It works now. I can now move the cursor with the 5nav or tap.

The only - minor - things I noticed is the cursor staying on the first entry (the gray shadow stays on the first entry whereas the blue rectangle moves from one entry to the other - I guess you know what I mean). Also, the DA still flees when tapping inside its window in the area between the entries and the outside border; tapping on the small arrow(s) for scrolling the list will also cause it disappearing. You said
... UrlDA only handles them outside the bounds of the form ... but methinks it should read "only handles them outside the bounds of the window", doesnīt it? Itīs not much of a deal for me as I tend to use DAīs with the 5nav anyway, and doing that works.

Any chance for putting the default focus on the first entry by default on startup? For a hard button user like me youīd make my day :)

Thx a lot for making this work !

Do I hear support utility? sounds good ... I smell blood and do have some nice ideas :)

You could use the note field as sort of an INI style field, containing settings like
Browser=BLZ5
Deletable=No

How about having a setting "KeepCookies=Yes" and a button (just like in BlazerDA [which, btw, could then be merged into UrlDA...]) to kill all other cookies from Blazer|NetFront|YouNameIt Cookies.DB ? Deleting the cookies or at least some|most of them does speed up blazer start somewhat.

Then again... I very much appreciate what you have done already and am quite content with the UrlDA I have :)) It could still need some pimping, but it works.

Thanks juggernaut :) And I didn't mean I wasn't going to make it with lots of features, just not the technical ones

For example, you can now insert a username and/or password into the notes field and when you launch that particular URL it will copy them to the clipboard so you can paste it in webpage. Each URL now has an icon, which you can configure with the assisting app.

And that's my progress so far!

Oh well, I've tried the EventLauncher + MetaDA combo and EL doesn't work either - the default app still launches no matter what hard button I select.

I fixed it, it was a simple .PRC to .prc. The link here on the forum should still have worked.

I'm still working on the support app. It does everything List does but UrlDA specificly. For example, instead of giving you the notes field and expecting you to insert the correct info, it gives you a drop down list with the browsers available and determines the icon from that.

That's it so far! UrlDA is simply waiting on the support app.

User/Password field for webpages. The user and password provided will be copied to the clipboard prior to launching the page in the browser.

Inside the List database:

Field 1: Display name - What will represent the URL, for example, 1src Mobile

Field 2: The URL - To follow my example, http://www.1src.com/mobile

Notes field: Browser: Data to be copied to the clipboard - The two items must be separated by a colon. Example: netfront:Username Password. Everything after the colon will be copied to the clipboard.

Iīm sorry, I had thought you wouldnīt develop it further :)
It (= the one from your latest download link) crashes right on tapping "goto" after an entry is selected (I do all moving around and selecting with hard buttons, no stylus involved). The log says itīs an "FE" error.
I did not change my link database since the last time I send it to you and tested with a few entries out of the middle that donīt have anything special in their note field.

This app has a lot of potential. Has development ceased or will it simply not work with the Treo line of devices?

No, I'm still on vacation :D I'll get back home very soon, and I'll be sending out some test versions.

I cannot figure out the treo problem, it works perfect on all my devices, and the treo simulators. It's got to be an incompatibility or something somewhere..

But no, this project is very much alive indeed :) But I'm also working on two shareware projects, so this isn't getting all my attention ;)

Luke

Hello again

I have a debug version for all users who experienced crashes when pressing the goto button. Download here (http://programmerbygrace.com/downloads/UrlDA_Treo.prc)

Here's how it should be done :D

Install UrlDA
Launch UrlDA
Select one of your Bookmarks, the url you want to visit.
Press Goto.

After pressing goto, you'll need to report all the dialogs that appear, and what they say. If your device crashes before any dialogs appear, I need to know that too :)

Painful, I know, but it must be done ;)

Thanks

That's fine, I was just curious :)

I'm not ranting at you because I don't know all of your circumstances, but anyone else that may have a similar thought in mind, you don't need internet to test the part I'm referring to. All you need is a browser on your device to be launched.

Thanks

Using your latest version, I get these two windows (the first one does raise the question where you live :) ) and a FE right afterwards.

Using Lists1.15 with 3 entries

1. Error Database: can't find (Dm 0207)
2.Same screenshots as juggernaut#2.
3. Crashes

That's odd. What is in the browser field of your database/url? That's what is supposed to show up where all the y's did :)

Thanks

Blazer is in that field.

So what is the last dialog you see before the crash? Does it say 4a?

nepacsman

That is correct.

That being the case, the program is crashing when it attempts to find the Blazer application by creator ID and type.

I'll try another system of finding Blazer and see what happens.

Try this (http://programmerbygrace.com/UrlDA.prc)

Be sure to delete the old version first.

Now I get the all "y" screen, then 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, then a reset.

That's an improvement :)

If you use a file launcher to look up the Blazer application, is it under Blazer or Web?

EDIT: 4d? There is no 4d dialog.

nepacsman

You're correct, no 4d.

Blazer

I'll be offline for about 45 minutes. I'll check back then.

Ok, here's another one: download (http://programmerbygrace.com/UrlDA.prc)

I've narrowed it down to two possibilities:

1) The bookmark database isn't getting fully loaded
2) I'm running out of memory

I'm betting on the second myself, and hopefully I'll be able to find out soon.

Error Database: can't find (Dm 0207)

then

All y screen, 4a, 4b, 4c, all y screen again, reset.

Ok, here's another one:
1 - an empty information window -> OK
2 - a "4a" -> OK
3 - a "4b" -> OK
4 - a "4c" -> OK
5 - an information window showing the selected link (correctly shown, that is)
then: no crash, and blazer (the correct browser for that link) gets started without that link.

you need any more info?

Yes, where does the crash come in? :D

Don't you hate it when things work right..

@nepacsman - I'm not understanding where the Error Database: Can't Find is coming from. Is it when you first launch the DA, or after you press the button? I would find it curious if it's after you press the button, as there's no database accessed.

Thanks

I tried another entry (1src) which is assigned to netfront. Surprisingly, the first window displays "NetFront 3.1" and my note (containing login info), then the 4a-4c windows and then - Blazer ...

I love my mom
09-04-2007, 09:10 AM
Yes, the first field shouldn't be Netfront 3.1, just Netfront:logininfo. No version number is required.

When the browser is launched all the information after the : will be on the clipboard.

It happens when I first launch the DA. I press Ok, then I get 4a, 4b ...

Iīm sorry - this is not what i put in my list entry, this is what the first information window of UrlDA said after i had pressed GOTO.

That's odd, because all the first window is showing is the text from your database.

I'm working on it..

You have a case of a missing Bookmarks database.

What am i expected to be doing with this project right now? :D I suppose you want me to just remove the debug dialogs?

[QUOTE=I love my mom]You have a case of a missing Bookmarks database.

So correct me if I'm wrong. The DA should use the native Palm Bookmarks DB? Or is it still utilizing the 'List' application.?

I love my mom
09-17-2007, 12:44 PM
it is still utilizing the 'List' databases. When the support app gets finished (no estimates) List will no longer be needed. However, you must have a List database named Bookmarks now.

AHA!!!!!!! It works !!!!!!!!! Treo heaven!!!!!

I had my List DB named incorrectly.

Now, to just get rid of the debug windows:) Now I see the relevance in your statement "I suppose you want me to just remove the debug dialogs?"
