I got a serious problem. For some time now I can not hotsync my Tx with WinXP SP2. When I connected it first time I got a message that my USB device is not functioning properly. When I push hotsync button on cable or on TX hotsync window on PC does not come up. I have tried to reinstall Palm Desktop, but with no success. So I thought that my PC is busted and sort of forgot about it because started playing with WM5 smartphone, which BTW syncs without problems. But recently I purchase a laptop, fresh installed palm desktop and tried to hotsync my TX. Again, I got a message that my Tx might not function properly and HotSync window does not pop-up. So my guess that is something wrong with TX. But what? Please help!

I believe when you get the message, your handheld or hardward may not function properly it is another way to say "the computer needs the driver". Finding the driver requires you to browse the installation cd for the driver location.....and of course if you are using the professional xp you have to get the administrator's permission to download the program.

If your TX was already syncronized it will have a name on the hotsync screen. On a virgin log in you will set the exact name for the handheld to be syncronized

Also the settings for hotsync should be checked Local USB on the desktop and local on the handheld screen of the hotsync page...good luck

What driver does it need? I would think that my brand new laptop will have latest drivers. I already installed new Palm Desktop. I think it chocks on intallation of USB Mass Storage Device. I can not find a driver on the net. Please help. I do not want to hard reset my palm

When I connected it first time I got a message that my USB device is not functioning properly. When I push hotsync button on cable or on TX hotsync window on PC does not come up.

I sometimes get the same message & response from my PC, when I try to connect my TX to my laptop, using the original sync cable that came with the TX. What I sometimes do is unplug and then re-attach that TX to the cable.

Re-attaching did not help. I ended up hard reseting my TX and now it hotsyncs just fine. When I did partial restore it froze again after installing agendus. Can it be the cause of my problems?
So I ended up hard reseting it again, pulling my contacts and daybook. I also Installed 3 software that I had for a while (Zlauncher, epocrates, handbase) and will probably stop here. TX is very unstable machine. I have never had so much trouble either with Handera nor with T3 and Sony NR70.

I'm in the middle of the same problem, and I have no idea what the solution is. I can do a WiFi sync, but not in a cradle or cable. Am about to try a hard reset...

That kind of problem is usually related to the Windows side of thing, not the Palm (unless you're using CardExport, which creates USB problems of its own).

What I do in those cases is:

- close the Hotsync Manager program
- unplug the USB cable
- go to Windows device manager
- look for the "Palm Handheld" device and remove it
- plug the USB cable again
- Windows will say new hardware has been added and it will recognize the Palm again
- run the Hotsync Manager again

Now you can hotsync

Got the same problem with my TX but this time from my Mac. Hotsyncing with an Mac OSv10.3 "locks" the Palm Desktop. Using Mac OSv9.2.2 (Classic) crashes the Mac and I have to reboot. In both cases the sync is never completed. So it's not just a Windows problem. Is it a software one? Need help! BTW, I just switched over from a Treo 600 to this TX. Thanks!

Interesting that you should mention Card Export. I use it often. More thoughts on this utility?

In my case, a hard reset was necessary. This was no great tragedy, since I was able to WiFi sync first.
