Once again, a company has found a way to make a device that many would have though impossible. Siemens has packed all the necessary parts of a mobile phone into an SD card.
According to The Inquirer, the CF45 will use GSM/GPRS networks common in Europe and available in most of the U.S. It will have both wireless voice and data capabilities. Siemans has demonstrated that it has a data transfer rate of 42 Kbps.
The CF45 will be available in Europe before the end of this year, where it will sell for about 270 Euros. It is not yet known whether it will be available in the U.S. or at what cost. There will drivers for both Pocket PC and Palm OS devices.
However, there appears to be some cause to doubt at least part of this information. A brief description of the CF45 appears on Siemans' website. This says the CF45 is a CompactFlash card. It's possible there will be two versions of this device: one SD and one CompactFlash. Even better, the CF version seems to have a higher data transfer speed: 85 Kbps.
