View Full Version : For the battery the first time you use it-hard or soft reset?

This is probably covered SOMEWHERE on here already, but I can't find it...
Just got my new NX60, and it says you're supposed to fully charge it, then reset it the first time you use it to calibrate the battery meter thingee. Anyone know if it's supposed to be a hard or a soft reset? It dosen't say...
Edit: As long as I'm asking, is there any advantage to letting it charge in the cradle once the charging light turns off? I used to think you were supposed to let them "trickle charge" for at least two hours past when they turn off...but I've since heard that with Lithium batteries there is no such thing as a "trickle charge"-it just completly cuts power to it once it's finished.

Soft reset is all that's needed.
And no, you don't need to let it charge past the light going off.
Enjoy your new baby!

I didn't even realize they looked different. I'll have to compare them in the store now :)
I had no real use for the camera (already have a real 3.2MP Sony), and got this for $384, versus more like $430 for the NX70. Cool that it actually looks better!
I can't believe how painful this is waiting for it to finish charging. Geez, it's only 4 hours, but...

I have used mine right away in the cradle with no ill effects. Just don't remove it from the cradle until the charge light goes out.
BTW, Enjoy your new toy! ! !

By the way, what would happen if you didn't charge it first, but powered it on for a very short while?
Would it actually be damaging somehow, or is it just that they don't want you to return the thing for "problems" that would really be caused by an un-charged battery?
TIA

No you wouldn't damage the clie, it's for optimizing battery life.

Thanks. So you're saying that the ability of the battery to hold a charge could be compromised?

And it is possible the battery meter will be inaccurate. A soft reset WHILE CHARGING would fix that though. (You'll have to use a charger cable to get to it, though)

Yes, but not permanet damage, you need to retrain it over again. Todays Lithium batteries have their own little computer built-in. For maximum run time, it's best to fully charge it without interuption. Then use it until it's almost discharged, then fully charge it again. Then you are good to go. When you get a new car these days, some have an on board computer, the first 100 miles it's being trained to your driving style.
