I have a T|E2 and one day when I was trying to sync WMA-DRM files using PocketTunes, the program said that there was an error on initializing the DRM subsystem. When I went on to FileZ's property pages for my E2, I found that my serial number was gone. What happened to it and is there a app to restore the serial number?

Break out your old papers and find your hotsync number. There is a program changeName 3.2 that might allow you to rewrite your rom and id. Good luck sorry if I forgot where I got this free program...

My T5 crashed last week - not drastic and restarted from warm OK with everything seeming to be running; a hour or so later, when I went to run Brainforest, it reported itself as being unregistered - it's registration number was there but I discovered my Hotsync name had gone.
I ran a Hotsync that evening and, whilst it took a long time (especially synching with Outlook), it recovered fine (BackupBuddy doing its business).
However, there's a need out there for a utility to restore the hotsync name on later Palms.

OK, my memory may be faulty: I recall that the E did not have a "Device ID". I thought this was also true of the E2. Could someone else with an E2 verify?
The official way to check for a "Device ID":
In the default application launcher: Perform a menu App, Info...
In the "Info" dialog box: At the bottom, tap on the "Version" target.
There should be a line near the top that reads something like: "ID: PLL9L9L9L99-L"
This is the "Device ID"
For most devices, that have one, the "Device ID" is the same as the serial number, save with the addition of the last character. However, this extra character is just a check-sum character.

My e2 device:
PalmOS@Garnet v.5.4.7
ID: PN20M3X5-----L
(Of course the -- represents hidden numbers by me and the last - is a real -with L at the end....
