Hello all,

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic....

Can someone please explain this to me? I know that WiFi is a card that plugs into the cf slot that allows you to talk to your pc? right?

I've stumbled across other sites that mention WiFi hotspots around town. what are those? what can i do with them?

thanks in advance

I have jsut returned from starbucks frustraited by the netfont nausea that I experienced there. I purchased a WIFI because i couldn't resist the recent price tag of 16.$ and change, I am so glad I didn't spend the reg. price of 149.00$ that the sony card was going for when it first came out. What I am trying to say is the wifi experience has been a big dissapointment for me and I would suggest that unless you just need to access e-mail from starbucks or mcdonalds on your lunch break, save yourself the hassle and money.
do this, 1g compact flash + pruchase isolo download Turcic (donation) and hotsync to your hearts desire.
I know that-that wasn't your question but I jsut had to get that off my chest and I feel so much better. Francis

Spend some time in the wireless forum. There are some excellent tutorials there thta cover just about every problems there has been...
Franci, there was a thread in the NZ forum that gave a step-by-step on how to do the Starbucks thing. There was a trick to it.
Aussie, Wifi hotspots exist. What that means is that the owner of the Wifi broadcaster has left their network open so that others may use it for interent access. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. The Sony wireless drivers will attempt to connect to any open network. I have been successful on several occasions; however, there is no current app that helps this process via wep{password}cracking , etc....

I got on line ok it just took soooo long and when I finally got it either froze on me or gave me a page too large (on and on) amoung other errors. i also am not wild about T-mobile between them netfont adn all the annoying cellphone conversations at starbucks I would rather just wait until things get more addvanced adn more locations create a price war to lower wireless costs.

HAve you fiddled with the Netfront settings at all? I only run images and tables to cut down on PTL errors. Most page look pretty much the same this way. That might help. Other wise, perhaps not enough bandwidth for the load where you were? Also there was a thread in the NX forum about an updated Netfront.prc. It was opined that it worked better. I have the NZ version which does work better than my NX version did....

Thank you I will check out the info. and knowing me I will return and try again. Just venting i guess but what do I really have to be annoyed about two week vacation from teaching, free one day pass from t-mobile coffee, and everything else america has too offer. Life is good. Thanks for the advice Francis

ok, so this means i can walk in to a location where a hot spot exists and i can hook up to their network to surf the net and retrieve my emails?

if so, what to i actually need to do to my nx to make this happen?
