View Full Version : Palm V reset causes pointer misalignment

I inherited an old Palm V and find that whenever I load an application and do a soft reset the pointer comes back misaligned. So much so that I cannot bring up the Digitizer in Preferences to get it realigned. Anyone know why this is or know how to bring up the Digitizer to get it realigned? Thanks! Also did anyone ever find out if the OS 4.1 upgrade is still floating around somewhere?

Try taping the Welcome App! That usually works on my 5 - worst case, tap launcher and use the hw scroll buttons a few times to "change the position" of the program-

Also did anyone ever find out if the OS 4.1 upgrade is still floating around somewhere? It is still out there, but it is getting harder and harder to find. My very quick search shows that Expansys still has it (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=106206), but I do not know if they would ship internationally.

Anyone ... know how to bring up the Digitizer to get it realigned? You might want to look at SetDigitizer (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=8998), which brings up the calibration screen after a reset. It's free.
There are several other apparently similar programs at Palmgear, which I found by searching for digitizer.

DigiFix is another one. It's free.

Tam, Thanks! I'll try tapping on the welcome screen. Unfortunately, the App Launcher does not respond to tapping after the reset either. I've circled the icon to see if maybe it is an alignment issue but get no response. Thanks for the suggestions.

Looks like a useful utility but likly a Catch-22 since I would have to load the app before I could use it and therein lies the problem...

FerdFerd...I spoke before looking. It appears you can bring up the app, once loaded, by pressing one of the buttons rather than tapping. This might be just the thing. Thanks for the suggestion and forgive my ill-informed first post.

Thats an idea - assign it to a hardkey.
BTW, send me a PM because of the OS4 upgrade..

I am having the same problem, but additionally I cannot hotsynch anymore, so cannot get digitfix.prc to the Palm V.
How can I assign the digitizer to the hardware keys, whichout using the software buttons (home etc.). My digitizer is so far out of whack that I cannot use the software buttons anymore.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
HD

This happened to me also after upgrading a Palm V to OS 4.1.
Workaround was to assign the Welcome app to Tasks hard button, which I did not used anyway.

Alekz,
How did you assign the hard button? As I said, I cannot use the soft buttons to assign the hard button. Seems like a Catch22 to me.

The first time I was able to start the welcome app, even if the digitizer was shifted. I corrected it and immediately assigned the welcome app to a hard button.
Now in Your case, if You are not able to start the welcome app - I would try to flash it again - mine became shifted after flashing it with OS 4.1. I suppose You have a craddle and the hotsynch button is working...
Also - if I remember well, when battery gets completely drained Palm should bring up the Welcome app anyway?

I am trying to drain my battery. Boy, it does take a long time to do..... Grrr.

Well, I drained the battery to the point that neither the on/off button nor the reset whole in the back work anymore. Then I placed the Palm V back into the charger, but - alas - it still come up with the digitizer way out of "focus" and entire unusable. - I guess I officially declare my PalmV a paper weight.

I suggest that you make a Hard reset.
That will definitely allow you to recalibrate the digitizer.
After that, the easiest thing to do is to download Z-Digitizer from freewarepalm.
It brings up the calibration screen after each soft reset. :)
Hope this helps! :)
My Palm V is working great that way. :)

Hurrah! It worked for me after all. Three days after my last attempt I tried once more. As I said in my previous post it was already drained to the point that the on/off and reset buttons did not function any more. -- But the extra three days seemed to have drained the battery even more, and to the point of giving me the "welcome screen" when I place the PalmV back into the charger cradle. - Of course I immediately changed one of the hard buttons to the welcome screen (Thanks for the tip Alekz).
