I just purchased a usb Irda to use so I can sync my tungsten to my laptop wireless. However I got to thinking. I surf the web a little on the tungsten using Softick through the usb cable. Why wouldnt the new Irda usb adapter work in the same way? Im going to give it a try and see how it goes. I do not know the range on the adapter I purchased at ebay for 2.90 LOL but that would be cool if it works. Anyone have any idea if there is a good browser for the Tungsten E? Im currently using web pro 3, pocketlink (hangs up on me), and Xiino. Xiino is very fast but none of these are really that great. I will let you know my findings when I get the adapter if it works in conjunction with softick

bad news! my Laptop is having a conflict with a com port using the irda adapter I purchased. I get a message that there is an app using the com port already. however I can send files from my laptop to my palm but also I cannot hotsync I get the same com port message. been working at it for a couple hours I think I will call it quits and get it going tommorrow. I believe the app that is conflicting is the software in the pacckage I got. when I come close to my laptop it automatically finds my palm and wants me to send files to it. I dont understand why the hotsync wont work. once I get that working I think the connect to softick ppp will be easy

Your range will be pretty short. Maybe 10' or less. Your speeds will be terribly slow for web browsing (IRDA is just slow). As for browsers - You've already found Web Pro ;) It's slow, but it works. Pocket Link is terribly outdated. I wouldn't even bother keeping a copy of it. Xiino is fast, but it will mangle some pages pretty good. I'm not saying where, but you can also find a functional copy of NetFront, and Picsel Browser that work quite well.

Almost a poll question:
What would users prefer, giving up bluetooth or IR?
The more I learn to use Blue tooth the more I am thinking that IR will soon be obselete. Any other feedback?

IR is nearly dead already. Laptops used to come standard with IR ports. Now they come with Wifi and Bluetooth. I don't know if they even have IRDA now.

You might find the occasional cellphone with IR also, and I used one with my various IR-equipped Palms to dial up to Earthlink for e-mail and stuff. Given the choice between that and Bluetooth, though, Bluetooth wins by a longshot. You don't have to hold the two devices carefully so as to keep the IR ports aimed at each other--I can keep my phone in the belt case when going online with my Zodiac.
My daughter's phone--a Nokia 6103--has both IR and Bluetooth.
