Help. When I try and hotsync MP3's to CF, it doesn't work and in the hotsyn log I get a message saying:

Error: The CompactFlash Card-2 does not have any volumes on it. Cannot install files. Please ensure that a storage card is present.
OK Install To Card with 1 message(s)
Protocol Error: File already exists. (400B)

The CF is mounted, so what the hell is going on, it's driving me nuts! Think I'm gonna have to go and get a USB CF reader today!

Also I have a sandisk 512MB CF card, but there is only 488.4MB available. Is this normal?

dunno about the hotsync deal , but my 512Mb Sandisk also shows 488.4Mb
(now sit back and wait for the mathematicians to tell you why)

Don't worry about the Hotsync, as I've sorted it out. It turns out that I was trying to copy files to a folder (MSAUDIO) that already exists. Hotsyncing MP3's to the CF takes an eternity. I'll have to buy a card reader. Will it make a difference in speed, as I'm hotsyncing through USB anyway?

I know the Driver is only version 1.0, but its very buggy. Did you guys realise that you cannot connect to your PC with MSImport, even through the MS, when the CF is mounted. You have to unmount.

Also, when I manually mount the CF, it switches back to default Launcher, from ZLauncher, even though I have the 'Default Launcher' box checked.

Anyway why complain too much, as I now have loads of room for MP3's :)

I haven't used the CF card yet - so I am not sure what you are saying.

You cannot import mp3s to the cf card? You (and I) need a card reader?

You can HotSync to the CF card, but not use MS Import yet.

So how do I fill up my 1GB CF card with mp3s? Getting a card reader the best way? Or put them on the memory stick and transfer them from there? Or is hotsynching the only way?

Thanks n2ifp

really depends if you want to spend the extra money for the 6-in-1 card reader.
But if 1GB CF card worth of mp3s, well, a 6-in-1 would definitely come in good use, as it's fast in data transfer, also you wouldn't have to complicate the matter by putting mp3s into MS then transfer to CF. (Also taking alot of effort & time)

Suggestions for a good brand of card reader?

My brother and I each have the SanDisk ImageMate 6 in 1 card reader/writer. It has docking station, is USB2 or USB1.1. It also comes with both long USB and short USB cables for travel. It is not cheap, goes for about $40.00 USD at a local store.

There are many on the market that are much cheaper. The Dazzle is the only one that I have heard any negatives with. You might want to look for one that supports the MS Pro also. I have mutliple MS readers that will handle MS Pro, so that was not a concern.

I also have several printers that will read CF, MS, MM, SD, cards, they work, but they are excruciatingly slow.

I thought I'd just use the CF slot in my HP Photosmart 7550 but, as n2ifp points out it is so slow that it's useless.

Took 10 minutes to format a 256MB card! Went out and got a $14 USB reader at Target, and format takes about 15 seconds.

Thanks for the info. I bought a Viking intelliflash last night. Got good reviews on Amazon.com
