Has anyone successfully installed Mapopolis on an SD card for Palm?

You need a 2 Gb SD card to store all the Mapopolis map files, and I hope I can get the Mapopolis app itself, as well as the supporting words files and PSPeak stuff on there too.

So far, I have discovered Mapopolis.prc (350kb) can run off the SD card, but the MapopolisWords file (390kb) needs to be in RAM, as well as the PSpeak file (2860kb.) You can probably store all the files on the SD card, but you'll have to move certain ones to RAM before using Mapopolis, or just leaving it installed while you go on a trip.

Any tips or secrets for installing Mapopolis & map fules on an SD card for Palm?

thx

Use PowerRun or Zlauncher or the sort? Zlauncher should do it.

My suggestion, for whatever it's worth, is to just buy the NavCard. It has all the maps for the country plus the program and auto-installs on SD insertion.

IMO

The problem with the downloadable version is that the maps work better if they are in the system memory instead of on the card.

The NavCard program is different from the downloadable version. The downloadable has the zoom icon +/- and the 3d view. The Navcard version only has a slider for the +/- and no 3d view, but it is faster seamless.

I've used both!

I"ll probably just load Mapopolis into RAM before using it, and keeping as many of the other apps as possible on another SD card, and running those of the card.
In other words, I'd rather not make things more complicated when they can just be simplified.

Icecruncher-

Mapopolis is not available for my Palm. Settles that option. In either case, you need lots of ram for the app to run. So unless you can increase your ram, your stuck.

I guess you don't already own Powerrun or Zlauncher...

I didn't like PowerRun, and ZLauncher took a while to get set up, and to get familiar with it. I'm mostly happy with it now I appreciate the advice & support from you all with Mapopolis, ZLauncher and other stuff.

Now, I have 22 Mb of 28.8 to run Mapopolis.

thx.

Oh....

I just need to find the right PDA mount for the car.

Another IMO. regarding mounting.

What has worked best for me is getting a case that flips from the top, over the front and attaches with a snap - (Rhino Leather case is what I'm using on the lifedrive.)

If you open the case and put the flip cover around the back but still attach it to the snap (backwards), it makes a loop around the back of the palm that fits perfectly over the rear view mirror.

It's in perfect view, cheap and even though I've tried a bunch of other options, this has worked best for me.

Plus, you don't have to carry an extra piece of stuff with you. When you are done, pull it off the rear view mirror and flip it around to cover the face of the palm.

That would work, if you drive with one eye closed, so you'll only need 1/2 of the rear-view mirror.

Mine is a cheapie leather one with a magnetic clasp, which won't hold as good as a snap, and I prefer not to see all the wiring hanging down, so I'll go with the suction cups for now...

thx for the idea.
