very very,..... but it seems to be just a "demo" like the tittle says(its ver1.0 build something), if you see when the "about" window comes up, you can barely read the "PDA Performance Inc." right? but a google search shows only the PIM programs from that website, nothing else...

MS-Bob looked so stupid, users felt stupid for using it: http://toastytech.com/guis/bob.html

Do you think this will be a front end that will run both native palm programs and ones written specifically for Saguaro or will you launch this and only run programs written for it. Seems to me that the latter would kill the program from the get go.

you cannot add multitasking to existing apps without at least a recompile. most developers will not recompile their apps with an untested code. See my previous post. I'll be here to say "told you so" 2 months after this thing releases and 1 month after it is forgotten.

dragonsgames

It says it doesn't multitask all apps on the website...
At the heart of SaguaroŽ is a true multitasking kernel that allows multiple (Saguaro-compatible) applications to run simultaneously

One could port POSE to devices with a lot of RAM, and then one could allow POSE to run multiple sessions concurrently (sharing the virtual ROM but not the RAM), and hence one could multitask OS4 apps. But why bother?

and forget all os5 apps.
plus running a sony n610c ROM pace is currently taking up...32.6 MB of ram....and since i haven't released my VM hack ans this "saguaro" does not provide its own VM, NO CURRENT device will run pace :-)

But why bother?

:D agreed

Perhaps it will not fly. It'd be be too bad since it is some very nice eye candy.

However, considering the code is free, i.e. no license restriction, one has to wonder if it has some room for the other app developers to look at it. I'm not saying Access will do anything, in fact they are likely to do nothing. Buy maybe another browser will step in. Ditto for the other apps. I also see that there is some sort of attempt to change the core databases. Perhaps that will allow new developers and apps to move in.

Again, I have no idea what will happen and I don't want to be optimistic or pessimistic here. If no one wants to use, fine but at least it is completely open and free and therefor low risk for those willing to try it. Plus, it appears to be aiming for Palm and Windows portable devices.

EDIT:
I suspect that we'd see at least PDA Performance port some sort of contact app since they have that for the underlying OS. If they do not offer some apps, this will be a nice widget viewer.

Hey heyy, if they even do something like iSpin with its taskbar for palm apps it will still be cool. I am just eyecandy person and in awe with the scalable folders and transparency :) That clock looks good too :D

Hi Guys,

First of all, the application does run... even though I did not take the video, its currently running on my life-drive...

It does not do much more than whats in the video but its so cool to see the effects. I show case it to others when I want to show them what my lifedrive is capable of.

I was able to get his permission to upload the video and I knew it would cause some stir of excitement which is lacking in the world of PalmOS Development.

I have been beta testing Saguaro throughout the last few years and have been in chat with Peter here and there, very nice guy ;)

Two things are going to happen:

Since this is the developer of Life@Hand, either it will be another vaporware or Saguaro and Life@Hand will be available this year.

billegal
01-08-2007, 09:03 AM
How can one make an app for this? I like having the widgets already done. Hopefully those are available. If Life@Hand (or some other contact/calendar system) is available, then we need a browser and audio/media player next.

Totally not surprised. They (PDA Performance) have big ideas and can't seem to deliver. I remember a few years ago they were planning on the ultimate killer PIM app. Then Saguaro and Lineup. :(

I asked if they might open source their code. Anyone else care to ask?

harpgliss
02-28-2008, 07:35 PM
Hi,

The Lineup app and this Saguaro always looked like PPC apps instead of Palm apps.

I wonder if they had considered moving over and seeing if they could make a go of it programming for PPC.

I mean there should be no loyalty to continue programming for palm if they will not evolve to keep pace with the industry.

2009 may find Palm with an OS but no programmers making third party apps for them.

Now, I think these guys were young and full of ideas but just not enough business sense and sense of urgency to get stuff out in a quick manner.

Better to release it buggy then to not release it because you have no more funds to keep the business running.

The apps these guys put out were good and they will land elsewhere, just a shame that they were impacted by Palm, even just a little bit.

what a horribly misinformed and selfish response...developers do not get free food and shelter - they pay for it, so if the is not enough money to be made they are perfectly allowed to move on. You should apologize for this comment and erase it.

This is an old thread, but who cares, really.

We need to get these guys to give us the src. I saw someone back a ways talking about that. Since they gave up, maybe we could get Saguaro to continue as an opensource project that the entire community could contribute too? Just an idea, maybe.

Anyways, BUMP goes the thread to the top as I post pretty much a useless post. Anyone still in contact with those guys? Get them to give us the SOURCE CODE....Please! The entire community (or at least me) is begging them!

LupeValenz
11-04-2008, 09:20 AM
With Nova right around the corner..I don't see much of a point for Saguaro to be opensource project. Probably a good way to pass the time as we wait for Nova but I can go on without it.

phreakonaleash

We need to get these guys to give us the src

It's their IP. Asking them to opensource it isnt' going to change their opinion any. I've mailed Marshall Minardo about it once, he told me that the code stays with PDAPerformance for any future projects. It contains a lot of code that took them hundreds of man hours and little income for them to make, so honestly, lay off.

Authorandrew: If you are a palmos developer capable of coding ARMlets and ARM native applications, and know about pre-emptive multitasking and can run CW, I can give you marshall's emailing address.

sirian
11-04-2008, 10:59 AM
Makes me wonder why authorandrew even wants to make this project open source, since he stated in a post in brighthand that he does not know how to program for the PalmOS.

Maybe he's asking it on the behalf of any takers.
