Just a quick question for Zlauncher users and emulator fanatics out there. In the past, I was told that 3rd party launchers are great for increasing device memory because you can launch from the card-But-the DB cache was made smaller. This would make it impossible to play ram hungry apps such as zdoomz or ljp etc.. without turning off the launcher first. Have the newer versions of Zlauncher become easier on the DBcache or do you still have to disable it first

they were never heavy on it. whoever told you that bullshit should go read the OS code with a disassembler and the brain turned ON, and then [...censored...].
Now: the launcher, like all other apps, loads to DbCache while it is running, but contrary to popular BS it does NOT run in background while the app launched is running. much effort is put into making it seem so (mostly because users like to see that) but it is NOT actually running in background. Some install small system patches that may take up a bit of DbCache permanently but very few do and usually [NOT ALWAYS] they're smart about how to do it. Once the launcher launches the app, and app requests a large chunk of memory in the DbCache and this request cannot be fulfilled, all previous contents of cache that are no longer needed are purged in an attempt to fulfill the request. at this stage launcher will get purged too (patches will not, but if installed well it will not matter). Special note: DbCache memory management sucks so sometimes installing a totally unrelated app will result in emulators complaining about memory. This should not be blamed on the newly-installed up (like is common) but should instead be investigated. more often then not the app is innocent and the problem is memory management in cache caused fragmentation in that case uncache might help.

Well.. that clears up most of my misinformed confusion.. I have a few of your apps and they work great. Now that were sort of on the subject-do Skinui and Zlauncher get allong well?

i used them on all of my PDAs together, never had a problem
I guess the problem is that the launcher takes a good wodge of dbcache when it is running making slow-downs due to purging and refilling as one uses different apps more of an issue. Apart from that, as Dmitry says, there is no real additional overhead! Dont forget, PalmOS doesnt multitask!!

well, only if you are clever enough to hack it properly!!
