I got my hands on a CF "4in1" adapter card from a friend and decided to test it with the clie and CF driver. I first tried my old 128mb SD card in the adapter and mounted the card. The first time I did it, it gave me an error with numbers only, second time, it actually mounted! Then all the games and apps I had on that card magically appeared on my sony launcher under a group called "Card". So the adapter worked great with the SD card. So I went ahead and tried it with my 128mb Smart Media card that I use with my Olympus camera. I mounted it, got the same error, but mounted it again and it mounted. I then opened up acid image and there were the pictures I took with my Olympus Camera!! So after two different cards work, I decided to go for the memory stick part of the adapter, and sure enough, it worked just as well (except for that initial error). The only drawback with this adapter is that it is VERY big, but its a good solution for anyone trying to transfer files from a different type of card to the clie, or to the ms. This driver is amazing!! I can't wait until new updates come along and the bugs are worked out. Keep up the good work Eruware!!

IS THIS the error you are seeing: (0x00d) ?

Try mounting the memory in Slow Mode... or slow mount, THE ERROR may not appear in these modes.

Cool!!

Hey you're right.. it works perfectly using slow mount. This is the first time I had to use slow mount, but it works!! The adapter probably needs a bit more time to initialize before being mounted I guess. I'm just glad I can take this along trips and view my Smart Media cards on a nice screen without having to bring the laptop. Just wondering, are you guys able to view the image I attached? Thanks.

No, I cannot see the picture you attached. I had the same problem when trying to attach a picture. It doesn't seem to work.

It's huge, but opens the door for a vast market in storage! Yipee!

Is it the Semson&Co adapter?

The adapter is made by a company called PPA Inc. Here is the page for it:

http://www.ppa-usa.com/product_pages/cardreaders/cfto4in1.htm

Its big, but I guess its good for viewing and transfering data, I don't plan on keeping that thing inserted 24/7! Thats what I ordered the 1gb for. :D You can get this adapter from Fry's electronics and it was $39. I've already seen some on eBay for about $24, but with different names.

What makes this adaptor really big is probably the fact thatit supports MS, i.e. non-passive cards, which need a whole bunch of technology to work. An adaptor, that use everything besides MS should be much smaller. Anybody seen one?

Yea the SD/MMC card adapters are pretty much a CF card with a slot in it for the SD/MMC. I've also seen a post here of a Smart Media adapter that looked like it had decent profile.

I still wonder is this:

http://www.ppa-usa.com/product_pages/cardreaders/CFtoPC.htm

would work...you could have 5gb for under $150...

I intend to use the SAGATEK CFII to Smart Media adapter, it fits inside the slot sticking out only 3-4 mm at the bottom, though the smartmedia card sticks out about 10mm when inserted.

will let you know if it works, bought the cf driver, recived the adapter, just waiting for the reg code.....

It would be amazing if we can use this adapter and a PC Card HD!! I wish I had the parts so that I could try it.. if it did work, I would like to find a way for the PC Card to be connected via some sort of dongle or cable, instead of being mounted on top of the CF card. I can only imagine all the movies and multimedia I can fit into one of those PC Card drives..

Dell recently had the 5gb Toshiba PC Card HD for only $134!!!! It would be great news if it allowed full functionality and didnt impact battery life too much...

Has anyone had luck with any of these "4 in 1's" OTHER than the unit at the top of the thread?
I can't find a source for that one, but want to get one [if they work] before I leave on a trip.

I wonder if the people who are willing to use PC cards or 4/1 adapters are the same as those who are always complaining about the size of the high end CLIEs :D...

well, I am one ;-)

Not Da Cheech.......
Dump the files in, pull out the adapter...no problemo

Can you use Palm/Handmark branded pre-loaded SD cards then (e.g., games, dictionary, etc).

By the way, does these get read/run directly off the SD card, or moved to RAM first?

I've wanted to try some of those Palm SD cards, but always use Clie!

Yup the SAGATEK Smartmedia adapter works fine with the CF driver :D

i presume the others made by SAGATEK also work including one similar to the adapter at the top of this post...
