well i just ordered the sandsik v-mate instead of the vr100k. firstly because now the vr100k will set me back about $350 + 60 for shipping to te UK! Also i can only get an NTSC vr100k and , although possible, it doesnt produce as good results on a pal system. i bought the v-mate from amazon.co.uk for those interested for £70:

i have also ordered a 4gb memory stick off ebay for £50. ill post again with info on how i got on using the v-mate with my ux50!

well first impressions are very good! I have tried it in the mp4 (PSP) mode. It will only record in 320 x 240 but still recording in 'Best' quality setting the video is very watchable and VERY smooth. It needs no converting to play on my ux50. All you need is cliepet's fmp and the mp4 codecs from the freeware section! Or you can use TCPMP which works equally well! on the back of the v-mate there is a switch to change to NTSC or PAL so no problem if, say, you go from usa to uk. only problem i foresee is that you MUST have the remote control to use it, so you had better be careful with it!

personally i would highly recommend this to anyone!

Nice to know that works well =) Though I would have except better resolution but still very cool. Btw, which codecs and formats it supports?

yea i know not being able to use 640x480 is annoying! THere are 4 possibles recording formats though you can record in 640x480 in a format called MP4 ISO:

1. MP4 (PSP) - obviously records in format for use with psp, sony clie's

2. MP4 (ISO) - for general playback on tv or computer-i cannot get it to play well on ux50 with mmplayer, media launcher, fmp or tcpmp!

3. 3GP for most mobile phones

4. 3G2 -also for mobiles

you can get 3gp also to play on ux50 using tcpmp

That's pretty cool. What resolutions does it support for 3gp?

only 320x240 and lower aswell in 3GP but please note that the quality of video at this resolution is still very very watchable! the video runs very smoothly and i dont think that the quality is bad in anyway, on my ux50 it is just like mini tv!
