I need a little help. My TH55 is reseting each time I run a hotsync. I have soft reset a number of times. It simply says "Identifying User" and resets. Any ideas?

Hi LanMan, it may be a program that's hooked to the start/stop HotSync notifications, and fails to behave (that's when you notice these...) - any new app you installed lately?
Try to sync after a WARM-reset maybe: it brings your PDA into a state where no background applications are active, so it would help you establish that the problem is w/one of the installed applications.
A warm-reset is a soft-reset while the "up" button is pressed (the left jog in our THs) - a normal soft-reset after a warm one brings the palm into the "normal" condition, and then you could start disabling apps.
Report back! :)

Thanks for the suggestion, yoovee. It still resets after doing a warm-reset.

Do a step by step hotsync:
Hotsync every app. one by one.
Fist set all butt one, on Do Nothing.
And then try one by one to see what app. is the colpert.

I think that I may have located the source of my hotsync problem. The Owner field in Prefs reports my correct name. However, I am running an apps called HSNV-HotSync Name Verifier and reports that my hotsync name is missing the first two letters. Also, Uninstall Manager is no longer working, and it reporting the same hotsync name with missing letters. Does anyone know how to fix something like this?

I have an app called ChangeName (version 3.2) on my TH-55. It shows and allows you to change both your UserName and UserID. It sounds like your app is a similar one. The tips section with my app mentions that you normally would not see the UserID; but it's what Palm desktop uses to identify the PDA when hotsyncing. So it appears something (perhaps the app you described has changed the ID on your TH. The tips section in ChangeName is very clear in saying you should write down the original UserID if you change it. because you can't sync to your original account (on the PC) until you reset it to the original value.

The ID must be in the range of 256-65535. But if you don't have the correct value, you'll continue to have this error. FYI, my ID is "17978". Maybe that TH's used values around this size.

The guy who wrote this app may be able to suggest other options. In 2003, his web address was <www.mulliner.org/palm>

Best of Luck!

Thanks, Aces. I fixed my Hotsync ID problem by restoring from a Resco backup. However, I still cannot sync to my PC. The TH55 resets each time I try a hotsync when it reaches the "Identifying User" screen.
