Due to the circumstance of me buying the keyboard and the T665c at the exact same time, and the TG-50 coming out (in canada) after I bought the T665c, I might be getting it for about an $100 difference. To those of you who didn't know, the TG-50 only arrived in Canada like last week. I only bought the T665 two friggin' weeks ago and then they come out with a beauty. I said it was my last return there because the T665 is my dream PDA, but the TG-50 for me, is dreamier. I hope there's an open box there, those usually sell for even less. Well, all I need is some tips on how to work with my dreamy TG-50 which I'll probably have by monday.
ps. I've already switched 2 times in 2 months, at this rate I've had 1 PDA a month! My parents are saying the T665c would be my last time, but then a couple weeks later the TG-50 comes. My parents and I agreed that the built in keyboard was better. I know what's actually better is the voice recorder, os 5, clie viewer (I want good quality videos damnit, not kinoma or gmovie!), 200 mhz, and all the other goodies like os5 games.

1) Be patient with the keyboard. It's quite stiff initially, but WILL loosen up nicely with continued use.
2) Update all your apps to ensure they are OS5 ready, and if possible, hi-res.
3) Forget about your hacks. The only ones I've found thus far which work **reliably** = the latest versions of McPhling and FindHack.
4) Pick a weekend day to sleep during daylight hours. Then in the wee hours, download some movies from PocketMovies.net. Each one is rated by users, so try to stick with the 8 stars items. Recommended: KillerBean2 (about a 24mb d/l). (Auto download programs tend to be shaky when dealing with this site)
5) For audio purposes, grab a set of cheapie headphones, preferably one with a volume control on the cord. The built-in speaker is OK, but the sound thru even a $10 headphone = mahhhvelous.
6) Review this board thoroughly for switch tips. One I learned the hard way: create your ToDo (and DateBk5/Agendus), datebook, and Contacts categories PRIOR to your first sync. Otherwise, your category assignments will disappear and you'll have to recreate them.
7) Search this board for keyboard short-cuts. Also, pay attention to the green card in the box, which also lists some keyboard shortcuts.
8) After about a week or so of playing with the keyboard, consider adding the freebie Okey:
..... http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=45479
which will make the cap/blue/red key sticky, long enough to produce the desired character. In other words, you won't have to hold 2 keys down simultaneously.
9) If you're on the go alot (away from electrical outlets), know that a battery-based charger exists (4 AA batteries). Get Sony's formal model number from that site, then run a search for it at Froogle.com. Most ask for upwards of $30, but a couple have it for around $15.
10) Some folks like the built-in launcher; some don't. Check here or PalmGear for substitutes if you wind up in the latter category. FWIW, I adore ZLauncher, but primarily because of my customization tweaks. Has a great file manager, etc.
11) It really would be worth it for you to take a couple of hours, and read through assorted threads here for tips. The subject line is usually sufficient to determine whether you want to read further or not.
12) Welcome to the Club. We TG50'ers are a friendly lot... crazy as the dickens, but friendly!

Where'd you get your's? I have no credit card, can't buy online from sonystyle. The only canadian place I thought had tons of PDA's in toronto was Future Shop where the TG-50 only came out like a week ago, and the Zire 71 only came today or yesterday.
I bought the TG-50 in person at the Sony Store in Vancouver. They are a bit later than Toronto, they need to be shipped from Toronto. Future shop just got it last week, I think Sony send the TG-50 to their own store first, then send to other stores.

for those of you in canada, and more specifically, toronto and the gta, future shop, in my opinion, is terrible. the sales people are very pushy, and dont go away when u are just trying to browse. if u know where mississauga is then u know where sherway gardens is. at sherway gardens is a recently opened best buy. u dont have to believe me, but it is 100% better than future shop. plus, they had the tg50 in march, which is when i got it. and the sales people are friendly, and they leave u alone if you tell them you are just browsing. give it a try, you will smile

The Future Shop people in my area are fine and let me browse, though they are pushy on extended warrenties, I never buy em. Anyways, I bought it at future shop and it's before 30 days and I can still exchange. No way to exchange from best buy when I never bought from them in the first place. BtW, what's their TG50's price there, if I could get an even better deal on this :D

30 days for most things, 15 days for notebooks and computers. It's $649.99 at future shop too. Future Shop also gives an extra week for trades.

Yeah, I got mine from the Future Shop in Richmond (which is ironic seeing as I live in Langley and have a wonderful Sony Store there). Yeah, the Sony Stores got them in when they were first released, A & B Sound got them in about a month ago and Future Shop got them in last week....I was the first one to buy mine at future shop, they themselves hadn't even had a chance to look at it yet :D. At any rate, yes Future Shop sucks...and yes Best buy is better..the only ironic bit is that Future Shop is now owned by Best Buy..go fig.
Enjoy your TG!

This is bugging me, I just got it, happy and all, but I can't friggin hotsync! Could somebody please help me?
I believe that you have to uninstall the previous version of Palm Desktop first!
If you need to backup anything from the old one, try to look and save the file under your username folder in your PC

Got it working a couple hours back, all I had to do was uninstall all the openmg stuff so it could install again.
Oh, and you don't need Okey to make your blue/red shift keys sticky. Just hold down the color key and tap Caps Lock. Voila! Sticky until you tap the color key again.

$650 Cdn? That's probably before 15% taxes too. Ouch. I live in the GTA and hate buying electronics locally when I can find better deals on the net. $370 US works out to around $560 Cdn. Much better deal. Also if you order from Sonystyle CA, their prices actually don't correspond to a direct conversion from Sonystyle US prices... it's like they jack up the price in order to make a cut off the difference in exchange rate.
