Ok, I've had my awesome new toy for a week and I already dropped it. It still works but there's now a 3-4 mm gap between the screen and the swivel hinge (the screen is partially separated from the hinge). Has this happened to anyone? Is there a way for me to fix it without having to send it in? (Even though it still works, it's pretty flimsy now, and I'm afraid of it breaking off completely.)

ok this same thing happened w/ my nr.. it can happen very easily if u drop it hard that is. beleive me sony service sucks! they are contracted by sony and there cheap, they will just blame it on you as physical damage. in my case not only the hinge came out but there was crack by the power button as wells as the ir port plastic broken so they sent me an estimate of $432 first than i refused so they sent me an estimate of $342 lol... i refused and they sent it back.

BUT to the main discussion, what u have to do is open the back of the clie, take out all the screws from the screen and by the hinges. LOOK HOW THE HINGES ARE INSTALLED AND WHAT ORDER THE HINGES GOES IN (i think in ur case one hinge should be ok? ) and just retighten it. IF the plastic from inside that holds the screws is broken, ur best bet it to super glue em together:\ goodluck!

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. Did you buy it with a credit card that has protection for just such happenings? Some CC companies do have it.

I dropped mine the first week too, fortunately it didn't hurt it. It was in my jacket pocket and flew out and hit the bare concrete floor in the garage. It hit just right as it cart wheeled, phew, almost had a heart attack! What a sinking feeling it gives.

Best Buy actually covers "dropped" clie's - as long as you have the extended warranty.

I had an iPAQ 1910 fore a while - dropped it - they replaced it - but I opted for the NX70 instead - I transferred the warranty to the new Clie - they were nice about the whole thing and said that as long as I have the warranty, it's no problem.

so if we have some little problem with our nx then we have to pay a couple hundred just to get it fixed?????
for that we can just get a new one!!!!!

Happily, my baby is fixed!!! Full credit goes to my 14-yr-old son who's a gadget freak just like his mom! :)   He twisted the screen on its axis just enough to be able get a good look inside, noticed the plastic thing, and manipulated the metal part back underneath the plastic part, and... voila! Kids are waaaaaaay more clever than we sometimes give them credit for!!

As someone that works at Best Buy I can tell you without a doubt that we don't cover accidental damage.

It would be nice if there was hazard insurance readily available. These things are so expensive, complex, and fragile.

Use a credit card if any still offer coverage. Otherwise always read the fine print in an extended warranty contract. Whatever the salesperson says, it means nothing unless it's in writing!

KGOTT, I very pleased that it is squared away :)!

GREAT news! That's almost enough reason to have kids....

When I bought mine at Comp USA they sold me a replacement plan assuring me that if the device broke for any reason they would replace it. I haven't had the need to test out that service, thank goodness.

Should buy at CompUSA. Their TAP agreement does cover accidental damage including screen breakage. Very liberal, but more expensive.
