Try keeping Bird on SD card. When kept in RAM it crashed my T3 as well, it never happened anymore since I moved it to SD ;)

Bird (http://www.ppcompiler.org/?lng=en), mentioned above, is free. However, as mentioned above, may not be stable.
I wonder, would it be possible for a Palm OS programmer to write an application which one could do the following:
Launch this new application.
Activate this new application. At this point this new application will take over one of the hard buttons (see JollyRoger2, a screen shot program, to see what I mean).
Launch the application that you wish to test.
Press the hard button that was taken over above.
Press the screen button that you wish to get the ID of.
Launch the new application again. In some display area will be the button ID of the button that was pressed immediately after the hard button press.

Bird has always been quite stable for me on... Zire 31, CLIE TJ27, Tungsten E, TX, CLIE TH55. Are you certain that you have the latest version installed?

Bird has shown instability issues on my TE, and Holvy's T3. Even with the newest version. We keep it on the SD card and it works ok. Stored in RAM, it causes problems. *shrug*
