I installed the new Kinoma 4, whick plays MMS streams - the problem is that its so slow, I get like a frame every 20 seconds! a friend sitting next to me uses his PocketPC to the same address, and gets 15 frames a second!

This means the problem is with the player, not the network bandwidth or connection. Is there any other MMS player for Palm rather than kinoma?

Before truth. Ask yourself do you really need such as stream options? If "not" your thread is kinda useless but if "yes", truth is that ppc tends to get faster kb rates when downloading pages or files etc, so that may be the reason for this case. Though in this situation Kinoma 4 is only which can stream wma and few other formats if I'm right, but thing is that it just came out which means that it may be in need of updates and fixes so you should report about this to them. Also kinoma's stream supports only few sites which it can stream.

However MMplayer is another which let you stream but just one or two formats and it can't play wma or stream it. So in overall truth is that palm os could stream but it seems that there aren't enough good programmers to do such as super application. There are more developers for ppc and they say that it is easier to program to windows mobile. For me I don't care about streaming but hell yeh it would be very nice to if they would work 100%!

Oh, and I almost forgot. There is one program called Coreplayer which is very new video player for palm os including streaming options and good look + large amount of codecs. As it is new there hasn't been so much discussion about it so you could try it and see how it works. I don't know almost anything about it so maybe another 1src members could light me up about it.

I have CorePlayer installed. Works great for some vidcasts I download.
The video streaming does work, but itīs a pain to enter the URL, and it doesnīt remember it after going out of CP...
The whole playlist interface is also still a bit hard to work with.
They said they are working hard on updates, so hopefully this will all work properly soon. My advice would be to wait till version 1.5 is out, which might be an other couple of months.

For Kinoma problems I would contact the developer directly as PDAman said.

1. Yes, I do need such an option. When I'm waiting or passing time, I usually surf the web, and I have lots of streaming TV sites I can use
2. Coreplayer does not support MMS (I have it installed)
3. MMPlayer doesn't support it as well :( only podcasts and http:// streams

Thanks for answering!

Ah, youīve been there, done that. I was thinking you were looking for streaming capability in general. :o
I never played with the streaming function in CP much. Because itīs so hard to use I never tried all the formats...

Some pointers on streaming (from my satelite tv experience):
1) If the strength of the signal is weak or interrupted the picture freezes or is scrambled.
2) If the site in which you are downloading to is filled, you may get overidden data, causing the rest of the file to be corrupted.
3) Various chipsets run at different speeds. Experimenting with the clockspeeds may or may not be useful.
4)Streaming by wi-fi is not Palm's strongpoint, the telephone companies that will market Treo may or may not decide to help Palm develope this ability.

Um, I can't ficure anything else than just trying to send email to kinoma, mmplayer and coreplayer's programmers and ask could they improve/add such as option like MMS streaming or then there is always windows mobile gadgets. Sorry.

Kinoma should support MMS (as I use it to listen to German radio stations, SWR3 - and this and many other ones use MMS). Perhaps you want to read something about the streaming feature:

The trick is that you need to overclock your T|X to 416MHz or so to get decent rates... the issue isn't with your connection, it's with Kinoma being bloated and slow.

I have feeling that 416mhz isn't enough if even the TX's default speed isn't :o

What can I say... it works for me :) 520MHz works even better, however.

FWIW, 520MHz is the maximum speed that all Palm T|Xes can clock to; some become very unstable above that (my current one can go higher, but still glitches on occasion, so I never put it past 520).

To agree with _Em, I can tell you that my TX handles the apps that I overclock to 520Mhz quite well - never had any issues. I did try to go higher when I first picked up WarpSpeed but I too had some gliches and haven't gone back since. Clocking to 520 mhz when needed has made my TX zippier than my old T3 :D I believe the stock speed for TX is 312mhz and for the T3 is 416mhz.
