Telus and Bell won't let you use phones that you get from anywhere but them.
Verizon in the US will accept other Verizon phones you get off of eBay, and Sprint usually accepts Sprint phones you buy from other places, but they don't accept each others' phones.

You won't be able to unlock it to work with your carrier. You can only "unlock" GSM phones to used with other carriers, but only ones that need SIM cards. Any phone that does not need a SIM card is CDMA and while they can be unlocked in theory, unlocking them only means that the carrier enters the EIN number into their network. Most carriers will not allow other carriers phones to be put onto their network. The reasons I have always heard is that they customize those phones for their customers and don't like to let other carriers phones onto their network. Bottom line, unless you want to change carriers, you've bought a brick. :o
