I wan to give my T615C to my wife. Can I change the user name without doing a hard reset and starting over?

:) ;)

You can delete the current userid without a hard reset as follows:[shortcut] [dot] 5 [shortcut]

where [shortcut] is the script lower case "L" looking symbol and [dot] is a double tap

That should do it.

And then how do I enter her user ID?

I use a freeware application called ChangeName (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=62269020021230190416&prodID=2456). It allows you to change and/or set the UserName, UserID, Rom ID, and OS version string. Very powerful, yet simple to use. The UserID is a random number assigned by the Palm desktop to each user, so will sync the same info if unchanged. When you change the username on the handheld, you'll have to also change the username on the desktop to match. I've never done quite what you have in mind, but this should work.

I've never had to do this, but I'm curious . . . will this 'unregister' all the registered software already on a PDA? (The ones that the reg number is tied to the Hotsync name?)

that's what logic would dictate, but if it's already registered, it may not unregister, depending on how well the app was written

When you hotsync and there's no name, it'll ask you for a new one

Developers need to make allowances for this because so many people update their PDA's so frequently. I've never had a probelm asking a developer for a new unlock code and don't expect to ever have one. Usually, a good developer would keep a record of purchases and there should be no problem. Still, if you have allot of software, you could be looking at allot of emailing in the days ahead if you change your device's name.

In my experience, yes. It will check its status in Saved Preferences and if it doesn't match your user name, it will run as unregistered.

What the developers will do depends on your intent. If you intend to run the software on both yours and your wife's PDA, then you need two copies to be legal--one for each device.

No, I don't intend to run the software on two PDA's. I fully believe in getting what you pay for and paying for what you get. I hope that most of the developers will be accomodating, but we will have to see.

Thanks all.
