I thought I'd start this thread of collate experiences about any accessories that are now available because of the release of the CF drivers. I've read a few other posts about memory card readers but can't see any conclusions.

When I eventually get my driver through (after registering with PayPal :( , then ordering the software, then getting it...) I will trying out my "Imation - FlashGo" 4-1 card reader and post my results here. It can read CF, SmartMedia, SD and MS, which will be useful as my Fuji digital camera uses SmartMedia.

I know the reader 'fits the slot' and when I have the driver I'll let you know if it works.

So, has anyone else out there found CF devices that now work?

Like some others out there, the idea of using a CF GSM card is quite appealing.

There are now readers that are USB 2.0 and they are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than the normal USB ones...

My understanding is USB 1.1 is 12mb/s ??

and USB 2.0 is 480mb/s ??

But how fast can they write onto CF and MS ?? I think CF & MS cant write even as fast as 11mb/s ??

The speed is limited to the memory card's speed.

This is a memory card driver only. Each device would need it's own specific driver. There could be some sharing of modem drivers for modems, but not all. Whether a generic GSM driver can be written is unknown to me.

I can certainly notice the difference with USB 2. I transferred 500 MB of MP3's in about 3 minutes off my USB 2 port. It took approx 23 minutes off my USB 1.1 port.

No offense meant to all those helpful replies on the pro's and con's of USB (visit usb.org for all the info you need/want) but I am more interested in posts regarding CF devices that might now work with my NX70V.

Sorry....
I would like to see the CF to USB adaptor work.
There was a thread about hooking up an IDE drive through a gutted CF card, I plan to try this in a couple of days as soon as I can get a cheap CF card to gut.

No worries.

Your plan to wire up an IDE drive sounds way out of my depth, interested to find out the results though

Yea, except for the horrible potability problem you have like 20 gigs (my test IDE drive) of MP3's and there should be very little power drain because the IDE drive would need its own power supply. Or I suppose you could let the Clie power it and it could suck the battery dry in about 30 seconds.

Today I received my reg code for the CF drivers and after trying my 128MB and 256 MB CF cards (everything worked fine!) I felt more adventurous and tried a CF to Smartmedia adapter that I had been using with other devices before. It is working great!

Have a look at the pictures. Since the SM card is longer than the CF card, it is sticking out a bit. It looks a bit dangerous. I used a 32MB Smartmedia card and it shows up correctly in the Filemanager.

The CF to SM adapter is from a company called "Feiya". I bought it in Germany at the CONRAD electronics shop (http://www.conrad.de).

This is the type of thing I'm interested in :D , very happy indeed.

Only another month to wait to get my CC bill so I can fully register with PayPal and then I can order my driver:( , then I can try out my card reader.

Why are peopl having trouble with paypal. I made a brand new account two days ago to buy the driver and I never had any problem doing so.

Those who reside in the USA have no problem. It's those who live in other countries. Some countries like Malaysia for example are NOT serviced by PayPal. It's a lot harder to get PayPal blessings outside the USA!

How could this work? How would the Clie know what was hooked up? Wouldn't you need an .inf file or driver for every USB device? How would the palm OS be able to interact?

Yea I agree the USB thing isn't going to happen I just said I would like to see it. Anyway I picked up my cheap 16MB CF card so I will probably try the IDE drive thing this weekend and I'll let people know if it works.
This is more of a can it be done thing rather than anything I plan to use.

I've now tried out my Imation FlashGo 4-1 card reader and it doesn't work:( . When I try to mount the card reader it does not respong (even in Slow Mode) and I have to do a soft reset.

I will be trying a CF Card Reader (for SmartMedia) though, they're cheap and would be of use to me.

I have a PPA 4 in 1 CF adapter and it seems to work well. As a matter of fact I get better speed from the MS when used through the adapter LOL :)

Me too I tried a flashmate MS->CF adaptor and the MS is faster through it as well.

I seriously doubt there would be a Sony Palm driver for it. When I last looked, the Palm OS wasn't even mentioned. I agree that with the right driver, it would be a nice addition :)
