hello everyone
i finally bought myself a TX that should come soon in the mail. This is my first palm and i have to ask for everything from hard resets to soft and installing and deleting programs and all ...so please bear with me in future....i have few quetions to begin with:
1- once i open the box, do I need to upgrade any software or firmware through palm?
2- first task would be to be able to use the palm for browsing the web. Do i need a new browser? what do you recommend? someone suggested in this forum to use skweez.net and browse through that server.
3- I came across of this post in another forum. since I didnt understand much, what is the opinion of users about products sold on palmpowerups.com? here is the actual post that the author talks about programs he has used from that site http://canuck-pda.ca/2006_03_01_canuck-pda_archive.html
many thanks for taking time and for your help and your recommendations.

1) No you don't need to (unless you need the wi-fi upgrade to access "enterprise" networks - costs money).
2) Try using Blazer first and then think about it.
3) They seem reliable and well thought of. Again, I'd not go rushing to instal things before you have found a real need - except perhaps a backup prog would be a good idea.

1) I agree with Frankeleyn, I don't think there's anything to update but double check on the Palm Website.
2) I personally use Blazer (the browser that comes preinstalled on the TX) but I know that a lot of people use NetFront. Do a search here on the 1src forums for download links and more info if you're interested. I find Blazer very adequate for browsing and I do use it a lot.
3) I use a few of PalmPowerups - unCache, Warpspeed, SkinUI, brightnessFx and I've got PowerDigi and HardReset NVFS available just incase I ever need them. I would say that unCache is pretty much mandatory (it helps to free up DBCache which can slow down performance), there are a few threads here that discuss this app extensively. The rest are very nice additions to optimize performance and provide some eye candy.
4) I highly recommend a backup program be one of your first installs after getting an SD card. There are quite a few choices out there but I highly recommend NVBackup (free) or RescoBackup (shareware)
Good luck and enjoy!!

There is a security panel update that you should install, if it isn't there. The link on the Palm web site is here (http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/securitypanel.html). The page tells you how to deterine whether you need to add this or not. I don't know whether the newest TXs have this already or not. Mine didn't, but it's now very nearly a year old.

If you have any issues connecting, make sure your router is set to b and g (some of us forget the TX is an 802.11b device). If you have other issues connecting, there is a long thread at Brighthand called something like "How to Select and Set Up a Router" and I think it is in the TX forum.
Enjoy your new TX, I've been happy with mine for over a year.

The apps by Dmitry Grinberg at palmpowerups are not only well thought out, but usually address problems that should have been addressed by the palm programmers. As has already been stated, UnCache is something you should definitely get (it was only $5, last I looked). You should note that by using UnCache, although it will keep your dbcache cleaner and freer, the URL links from email don't seem to work.
The most important application on my TX is the backup app. I also use NVBackup and highly reccommend it. I have Resco Backup and BackupMan as well, but I don't think that these apps do as good a job, IMHO.
Good Luck with your TX!
