Wondering... (File Storage Question)

I just want to use the CF driver and CF card for extra storage. Is it possible to just store files and access them simultaneously with an MS inserted? I mean, if I put photos onto a CF card, will Clie Viewer be able to read them, or will I have to go into Masquerading mode to get this to work?
I mean this would be cool to be able to take my cybershot camera and my clie on vacation and be able to only need one 128 MB MS and every day after taking photos, I can come back to the hotel room and insert the MS into the clie and transfer all the photos to the CF card and then reformat the MS for the next day.
So, is this scenario possible?

Hey Rob, remember me? I'm the guy who bought your gunmetal NX & I'm lovin it. What you posted is possible and with the first version of Clie Viewer, it will read both cards without the masquerading feature on. Also, there is a trick to use both the CF and MS while the CF is in masquerade mode, although the CF card will be considered the MS for the built in apps.

Hey Sal.. I do remember you. I am glad you are enjoying the CLIE.

See I have the UPDATED version of CLIE VIEWER and like it a lot. I will not be switching back. Does this mean I will not be able to view both cards at the same time? See I just would like to not have to bring a laptop with me on a vacation just to transfer pix from the digital camera's MS. I just want to bring a CF card along, pop it in and transfer files. I guess I thought that this CF driver would allow for both cards to be used at the same time.

What's the trick that will allow both cards to be used at the same time?

You can still do what you are describing, but you won't be able to use Clie Viewer to view the CF images (not sure if the updated Clie Viewer will allow you to see the images while masquerading?). Just use a file manager program to transfer your ms contents onto the CF card (right now its somewhat slow though) then format the ms for more camera use. If your really want to view the files, you can use Acid Image, it supports the multi-volumes pretty good.

As for the trick to use the CF and MS at the same time while in Masquerade mode, check this thread out, it worked on my NX also:

Ok, Sal, I will do that. I am still waiting for my reg. code to come. See if I could transfer pix to the CF card like you just described, this CLIE would become a lot more useful. I keep Acid Image on my MS to use for cases like viewing pix from multiple volumes. Usually I would keep the pix on the CF card, come home and transfer them to my PC and print the ones I really like and make a CLIE Album of other ones on my MS. Now that is a dream come true for CLIE users.

Especially since the MS Pros are $700.00 for 1GB, compared to $250.00 for 1GB CF. And my CyberShot probably would not be able to use MS Pro, since it's a year and a half old now.

Yea I would rather use the $700 and upgrade to an NZ. I just ordered a Sandisk 1gb for $199 with $8 shipping from eBay so hopefully the transaction goes well. I've been testing the CF driver since I got my reg code early tuesday morning with my old 128 generic card and so far so good. Just had to play around with it and check these forums. Of course the driver will get better over time. But what this driver is doing already was enough for me to go out and buy the big CF card..

Do you have any images stored on the CF? If so, is it possible one of them is corrupt?

I am assuming the card works for other stuff and had been formatted to FAT only. I am using the latest v2.6a of Acid Image. So far, I have not experienced any lockups.

I got a big screen LCD so I can read the fine print. Acid Image like ZLauncher put out updates faster than I change my shorts :D!
