Dumb newb question. I'm dumping my BB for a treo (cingular service) and the only current choice is the 650. Of course I read the horror stories regarding all of the looping, resests, lousy headset volume, and hard crashes on the Treo (and of course the ones were users have zero issues) and I'm a bit weary. I've had many Palm PDA's before so I'm somewhat familiar with the OS and issues. But am I being a bit too paranoid? I'd love to wait for the 680 but I have 30 days to return the BB to get the Treo. Any thoughts?
I think it really depends on what software you intend to use with your Treo. Some stuff just isn't programmed neatly and tends to cause conflicts. You should bear in mind that the 650 has been out for quite a long time and its issues are known and mostly addressed, whereas the 680 may bring new unpleasant surprises. Most users usually have no trouble with their devices, though. PalmOS is still a pretty stable mobile OS.

Treos are fine if you don't do really strange things to them. Like skaf has stated, it's been out long enough that most of its bugs are gone. HIGHLY recommend the device as it's really quite amazing what it's capable of doing, and a quick peek at the TreoCentral forums will show you that. That being said, if you ever have any issues, there are communities like here at 1src and the aforementioned TreoCentral that'll help you out. :D

Yes, I've had a 650 for well over a year. When I first got it, I experienced a bunch of soft resets, but the problem was an incompatible program. Since then, the Treo 650 has been great.

Why not get a 680?

good morning guys,
Okay, last night i did receive my New Unlocked Treo 650. It's been used for 2 weeks and is just NEW like it should be.
My question is this....
I do have an UX50 and Palm OS 5.4 "i think" already installed on my laptop. I guess i don't need to install this Treo CD again. If i sync my Treo "without installing Treo CD" for the first time with my laptop i just have to add a NEW User on the same software. Right?
How can i be sure that is not syncking all softwares meant for UX on my poor new little Treo? (I guess i just have to switch user.. hahaaa)
As you can see, is my First Treo and i don't want to have a bad start...
Its a huge difference between Treo and T610.. love them both...
Any suggestions/ advice/ Tips/ Help etc etc?
please Don't make me wait tooooo long ... I am so excited and cant wait... beside that i have to test this before my Wife comes back.. I am a dead man... :(

Mornin' to ya too. :p
I believe the Cliés have a different Palm Desktop then the rest of the Palms, so it would be smart to install the Treo CD version of Palm Desktop instead. I'm not 100% sure though...personally I'm using the T3 version of Palm Desktop, with the v4.1 build installed over that, then the LifeDrive's Palm Desktop installed over that, and finally the Treo 700p's Palm Desktop installed over that. Um...it looks cool and has the LifeDrive extras? My m515 syncs fine too. I guess this only goes to show that within the Palm product line, Palm Desktop works for all devices.

So, you think it will be more secure if i just install Treo software beside my UX Palm OS? and use them separately?
than i can not sync between my UX and Treo!!! That means to enter all appointments, data etc separately for each... :-( Thats not handy at all...
Is there no other way to keep the same agenda, phone book for both in same software? It must be someway to keep it easy and sync between all Palm users..
I know that Sony has kinda his own version of Palm OS, but how different that is, i don't remember and have no idea!!! but logically should be a teamwork... or i am just to idealistic guy again??
Do you sync m515 and Treo 700p with same desktop software? thats what i need...
Thanks for your information and have a great day buddy... et Bonjour aux filles la-bas chez toi.. lol

I have owned a Treo 650 for over a year and love it. The only problem I have encountered was headset volume which was fixed with software.
I enjoy my treo so much that I want to give one as a Christmas gift. I asked my friend's carrier (Cellular One, which uses GSM technology) about the price of a Treo 650 and they want close to $600! I looked on the internet and can find a new, unlocked treo for about $350 or so. My question is this: do I have to buy from the carrier or can I buy a new, unlocked treo 650 off the internet, put the SIM card from her old phone (a Nokia) into the treo 650 and have service? Is there something that the carrier must do to allow the Treo 650 onto its network or will the SIM card do the trick?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mehite, when a phone is GSM and UNLOCKED it means that can be used with any GSM service.
Today i did try mine with my T-Mobile prepaid SIM card and it works fine. as far as i played with it. I wont use my NEW UNLOCKED TREO 650 before i buy a protective skin and screen sheet....
But i did try to paire it with my BT SonyEricsson headset that i used with my SonyEricsson T610, somehow it doesnt find it.
But i does find and communicate with my UX50 and laptop...
I still didnt get any 100% sure answer about if i can sync my Treo and UX50 with same agenda, Palm OS desktop that i use since 2 yrs with my UX50...
anyone with a magic answer?
thanx alot...

haha You can always try yourself. ;)
If it's possible to install two different copies of Palm Desktop (the Clié one and the Treo one) on the same computer, you can sync the two PIMs together using a desktop folder duplicator. There's a thread in the TX forum that's on this.

I have no problems synching - as of yesterday I am synching T3, T|X, Treo600, and Treo650, all to the same desktop. I did run the 650 installation cd as there were some drivers required.

Max is currently at 4Gb, may go up if Dmitry works his magic and somehow we get 8Gb SDHC cards working on the 650...:p

The question of switching over from device "X" to device "Z" comes up often. Here is a great place to start (http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(12926))!
For BB to Treo check here (http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,CASE=obj(36244),ts=Palm_External2001)!
Searches at Palm support answer many questions! ;)

Really, all I did was pop in the Treo cd and create a new user at hot sync time. I tried to hot sync the treo without installing anything, but got an error messge, the content of which I don't recall now.

well, i did install the Palm Desktop that came with Treo650 over my old Clie and i made a new user name for Treo... so, even that i have 2 different user names for treo and UX50 and Over write files from desktop to device it still doesnt make any changes between 2 devices...
I dont think that you can install 2 different "Old and New" version of the same software without overwriting the old by new one...
so, i have no idea why mine doesnt work.. :-(
