View Full Version : Movieplayer thumbnails
Seem to remember old entries on this but they're all gone:
When I record movieclips with the built-in camer it doesn't record a thumbnail - just a grey box with a small movie icon inside. On one memory stick it recorded 4 thumbnails before doing this, on another there are no thumbnails at all. (Both 128Mb memory sticks with lots of free space)
Very annoying as know it's capable of making the thumbnails but isn't. Is anyone else experiencing this problem - and is there a fix?

Are you looking at it with Movie Player or Clie Viewer? Movie Player should display thumbnails by selecting update thumbnails in Movie Player. Info was located in the CD ROM application manual under Movie Player Menu Items.
Bit strange this. The manual says I should have 4 menu options (Index, Thumbnail, Movie and Options), but when I click on the Menu button I only get 2 options (Movie and Options) - so no chance to update the thumbnails.
Anyway isn't the programme supposed to automatically make thumbnails anyway?
NB I've got MoviePlayer v.1.0 - is there an update?

You have to go into Movie Player. Run the movie and select the frame for the thumbnail that you want displayed, by stopping the movie. Then select menu, thumbnails, then update. Go back into Clie Viewer and viola, your thumbnail should display. In other words you need to tell it what thumbnail to display as it would have no idea which frame you wanted. Now it's possible that you played back some movies in the past and stopped it part way through and it happened to update itself. Normally, you have to create the thumbnail.
Just checked out another site which says that Movie Player-format information files (such as thumbnails) should be in a file called MOV00001.MAI~MOV09999.MAI which should be in the following folder PALM/PROGRAMS/MoviePlayer/100MQV01 on the memory card. The file doesn't exist on my memory card (checked it with CLIE Files Data Management Program. This is a bit worrying. Any ideas how I can fix this?
(Still doesn't explain missing menu items)

YOU have to create the thumbnail and yes the MAI file is there. That's not the actual movie file, just the thumbnails. I have tried all this again just to be sure. I hope this helps.
Sorry posted the above without having seen the update. This works and have created thumbnails - however just wonder why the machine stopped doing this automatically - it made them every time without prompting when I first bought it.

I don't remember if it did or not in the beginning. Now it is not automatic, so I have no solid answer to give you. Looking back through the manual, there is no reference for it to have automatic update for movie files. I will say that I don't think there is anything wrong with your Clie. If there is anyone else who has an answer, they are more than welcome to contribute.

Mine doesn't do it automagically anymore either. Maybe it does it on it's own until you install 'other' software? heh.
As long as I can do it myself, I don't care one way or the other...
