Okay, I have finally bitten the bullet and purchased an SJ20 and Stowaway Keyboard. But I am finding lots of problems and confusions with the Mac upgrades. For DocsToGo, Dataviz wants 19.95. What up? For the Stowaway, Thinkoutside only has a Windows driver. And Microsatan only offers an Entourage conduit for OSX, and I used OS 9.2.2.

Help!

On the last bit, can I just skip entourage completely for synching on Calender events and just used the Palm software?

Also, I have Palm 4.0 on my computer. Should I download an upgrade?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Download the latest Palm Desktop for the Mac. The SJ20 (which doesn't have MP3 support) should sync without problems with the Mac.

DocsToGo, I believe, only works with Windows. Microsoft's Entourage, as you've stated, only works with OS X. So sorry about that "lost" application.

If I were you, I would just use the Palm Desktop for my Calendar, ToDo, and Memo Pad synchronization and skip Entourage completely.

As for your Stowaway, the only way to install it is through Windows. Maybe run it in a friend's PC just to get the file to install into your SJ20. I'll install the setup.exe, get the .prc file, email it as an attachment to myself, and access the email from my Mac. That way, I can hotsync the file to the SJ20. :)

Everything might sound too complicated for a Clie newbie but if you need more help, just be patient with the other Mac users' suggestions here... it'll come in time. ;)

docs to go works quite well with mac. in fact it works best with 9.2.x. you have to pay the upgrade cost because they only have one version of the mac dtg and that is the professional. on the windoze side there are three or four different versions at different price levels. (mac folks aren't likely to buy some half-@ss setup when for a couple of more bucks you can have the good stuff, so why bother putting out the other versions).

So to reiterate: I need to buy the docs to go upgrade. Fine. I need to download the PC version of stowaway driver - and then....? not clear on how I get it on to the SJ20.
Can't use entourage. Fine.Do I need to upgrade my exisitng Palm 4.0 desktop to 4.1 to synch with the SJ20? If so, how?
Finally, am I going to need anything else, like a memory stick or a cable? I am only going to use the SJ20 for working on Word documents, some of which are 30 pages or more.

Thanks for the help guys,
Max

you download the pc install program and use you buddy's pc to run the program. when it is finished running there will be a .prc file somewhere on your buddy's harddrive. have your buddy email the .prc file to you as an attachment. when you receive the file in your email, simply save it to your computer and then double click on it to install it on your clie.

palm desktop 4.1 is only for windohs. the mac version is still 4.0.

memory sticks are always a good investment, they are handy for backing up your clie and for putting a lot of information and programs on. using powerrun you can put almost all your programs on the memory stick and run them from there instead of having them all in ram. this makes the memory stick a lot like the hard drive on a computer.

hope this helps:D

thanks for all of that info. two questions:
1. will i have trouble syncih 4.1 clie and 4.0 mac?
2.understandng that memory sticks are a good investment, is it necessary at this point? for complicated reasons, i need to order this all in one batch. i only want to keep a calender and have word documents. no graphics at all. no excel. no games.
do i need a memory stick? note, i would like to keep some 50 word documents on the clie, most of which are 10 pages long.

max no. there is no correlation between palm os versions and desktop versions.
i would order a mid range memory stick because 500 pages of word documents add up to more than you might think (depending on how many times they have been edited). 15mb goes faster than you might think.;)

So I got my SJ20 and my stowaway keyboard, and even though Stowaway said the keyboard would work with the right drivers (which I have) the two do not physically connect!!!! The Clie input is too narrow for the keyboard. What's up?? Di dI get sent the wrong keyboard or something? It says Sony clie on it.
Also, once I get this figured out, how do I write on this thing? What program do I use? I have sent away for Docs to Go. but do I even have a word processor on here? I am confused.
Finally, the screen seems a bit small to me, smaller even than my girlfirends old PalmIII. I see now the 665c is on sale for the same price as I paid for the SJ20. Should I just return this and get the other one? does it have a bigger screen?

Thanks,
Max
