Don't forget to send in your 1SRC podcast audio postcards! NTP is up to their old tricks and Vodafone will be simplifying their handset OS line up. We also take a look at Origami On The Go, a classic Jeff Kirvin rant, and this week's 1SRC Editorial. [details (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=1741)]

Woot woot! Listening to the podcast so far and I have to say....KEEP THE AUDIO POSTCARDS! I love that, it is very unique and gives us other views from other people :D. It will also help us get to know the person behind the name in the forums ^.^

Alan, thanks for mentioning Origami On The Go. By the way, it's pronounced "kuh-nuhk", not "kah-nook" ;). Also, a colour screen is a requirement.
Also, individual probjects (if you don't want to have to download the ~4mb bundles) are available at http://canuck-software.ca/projects.html
I hope to have 4th, winter holiday bundle release by early to mid december :)
Keep up the great podcasts. I really love the whole audio postcard idea, they really help bring on a sense of community

Why? I though you did a good job. If I didn't, I wouldn't have used your submission. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Sounds good. Make sure you let me know when you do release the 4th bundle and I'll be sure to mention it on the podcast.
And that is two votes for keeping the audio postcards.

I thought you did great! You had some real substance in your report.
I just basically said "thanks" in mine. (And I wish I had thought to start with opening a bottle of water or other beverage).

WOw, I feel like a jerk for having an audio essay. Sorry for that :(.You did a great job, JA... Your postcard has almost inspired me to add to my short one. I still might.
I would like to vote to be able to continue sending in audio postcards. There are a few other podcasts I listen to that always accepts audio files from listeners. I think it's a great idea. But as long as the podcast doesn't turn into just answering questions from user's audio postcards. Alan's take from the Palm community is the number 1 reason why this podcast is so valuable. To me at least.

I vote to keep the postcards, like Blues said Alan's Palm thoughts are what keeps me listening. Listening right now.

Reply to JAmerican: You shame a lot of PDA users because you are more advanced in the tech and mechanical side of PDA use (that's why they made side issue coments). If you worry about your voice, you could get a talking head like Moses did, using Aaron to speak for him....
On another topic, a vast number of 1src readers are reluctant to even post coments, and I belong to the voice shy crowd. I believe Alan did post a memo on how to do an audio submission(it is probably more a mac enabled thing to use) Maybe some of the more audio folks on 1src encourage the audio challenged folks like me...
Do I like to download Podcasts early in the morning? No, morning time the broadband is crowded and I find it is easier to download during quieter periods....

Keep the postcards !
They definitely add some spice to an already excellent show (and the change in voice is welcome as well :D )
BTW thanks for the confirmation this was a train safe podcast, Alan. It was ;)

Now, now. There is enough room in the 1SRC podcast for both Clie and T3 cultists.

I really think these "audio postcards" are more like "podcast call-in"'s. They turn the podcast into an interactive experience. If the portion of these audio postcard will be controlled nicely just as they are now (a podcast full of these would not be good), I'd love to hear more of them. So, that's one more vote :)
By the way, I think you reported the NTP stuff really well, by providing the facts without too much emotion involved. If it were I reporting on that, I'd start on a resentful rant on NTP, full of 4 letter words.

That was my first reaction when I read about the new round of games being played by NTP. I also liked Palm's response to the suit. That set the tone for my coverage of the NTP situation. I also didn't know much about NTP, so I wanted to try and get some additional information on them and then report that info in the podcast because I was seeing some of the same questions showing up in other discussion threads here on 1SRC.
As far as ranting goes, the 1SRC podcast is a family friendly podcast so there are no f-bombs. I really thing that lanuage like that degrades the credibility of the host and the show.

Eight, from me! Alan, I do appreciate the way you talk (and rant!) on the podcasts because my 15 year old son always listens to 1src, and he knows and does more than me with his (my old) T3. So, I guess, make that Nine!

OK, so we have 9 votes for keeping the audio postcards. Now if we're going to keep the audio postcards coming, then I guess I'll have to cook up some really simple usage notes on how to record a message. After that, it will be up to you guys to start recording messages and sending them in!

Maybe this medium can also be used as a kind of topic starter:
someone asks a question or makes a comment and then you can continue from there.
Obviously this can not be used for hot topics since preparation time would be too short on your side, but it would definitely make the show a bit more interactive. What do you think ?

I started to listen to the Maximum Geek podcasts to get my fill of Kirvin. Its kind of funny how he talks about WM and him owning one. LOL. Seems somewhat hypocritical but we are all human so...

You know, I talked with Jeff before I used that clip. And he and I both agree that when we record the 1SRC podcast, we're doing so from the perspective of "now".
And I think we all do this when we are making choices day in and day out. In this case we are talking about mobile computing. We chose the device(s) that get the job done based on the needs of today. Not what we might need to do two years from now. If a WM device is the only way to get your work done, then why not chose a WM device? The same is true for Palm OS devices.
I know that I can be very brand loyal. When I find something that works well for me I stick with it for a long time. Some companies I am like that with are Apple, Honda, Coca-Cola, and yes, even Palm. (those last two are really hard to believe, I know, but it's true.)

I should not have said human. I meant that we all have to make decisions that is in our best interest. That's what I meant. I understand overall. I did the same thing for Apple. Now I am thinking about moving to Macs entirely once my PC is obsolete. Which will be in many years. I also said I would never get a Palm but I did. So we all make decisions that are better for us at that time than it was in the past.
