Hi,

I purchased a NR70V recently and I think it's a wonderful machine except it has started to develop a loud clicking noise when I use the Jog Dial to scroll up. When I scroll down it's fine, so it's only when I scroll up. It was fine when I first purchased it but started clicking after 2 weeks of use. It seems defective and I've only had this unit for a total of 3 weeks. I tried to exchange it at Best Buy tonight but they didn't have any in stock to exchange it with.

Does this seem normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any kind of a fix for it?

Thanks,
Terence.

Never experienced that...

Could there be something stuck in your jogdial? A small crumb or something? Try playing with it alot, to try to "wear out" whatever is making the noise. If not, then return it for cash to Best Buy, or find another Best Buy to make an exchange.

Mine is slightly louder clicking up than down, has worked for months for me.

Thanks for all your replies.

I do think it might be dust stuck in there. I've tried using air duster but that didn't change anything. I didn't want to open up the unit as it would void the warranty.

The click sound is louder going up than down but this is a much louder click than other units. It wasn't there when I first purchased either.

I tried another Best Buy tonight but they were out of stock as well. It looks like I may be stuck with either sending it to Sony, openning it up myself or spending $200 to move up to the NX70V. The biggest thing holding me back from going to the NX is the lack of keyboard drivers for the KB-11. Also, I just purchased a custom Vaja case. Since I can't do an exchange, I will probably open it up and try to fix it myself.

I saw a thread earlier about hinge repair and silicon lubricant. Is this the right kind of lubricant for electronics?

Thanks,
Terence.
