Hi guys, I am having trouble to sync my th55 with PC. :(

I did install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 first, then it asked to install USB driver for My TH55. After I finish install the USB driver, then nothing happen on ActiveSync Software. I tried to unplug cable and reboot the device couple times. No luck at all.

Therefore, I uninstall ActiveSync 4.2 then install the Palm Desktop Software which is provided in the CD, and I even install CLIE Organizer as well. Then I follow the instruction on the manual...plugin usb and connect th55. Nothing happen as well.

Could anyone tell me what is going on and how can I solve this problem? I used to sync successfully in the other computer, but I already tried 2 computers...both can't work. Please Help me. Really Appreciated! Thanks.

First, let's start with why you installed Microsoft ActiveSync. This product has nothing to do with the TH55. The product you need, which comes with the TH55, is the Palm Hotsync software. I don't have my TH55 install disk in front of me, but I seem to recall that you install "Palm Desktop" to install it. It sounds like you've installed that (and uninstalled ActiveSync).

That should do it, with one more thing... how are you initiatiting a sync? Are you running the hotsync application on your TH55 and tapping on the icon in the middle of the screen? Are you using a cable or cradle with a hotsync button on it?

I'm going to assume that you're just plugging in the cable. That isn't enough. You need to actually do something. Usually that's pressing a button on a cradle/cable or tapping the icon on the Palm's HotSync application.

On the other hand, if this has worked fine for you before, maybe you are doing this...

Thanks for the reply. I am using the cable to sync my th55 and I did tap the Hotsync application on th55 but computer doesn't do anything.

However, I found out under my hardware device manager, I can not see Sony Handheld inside. I assume I didn't install the driver properly? However, after I install Palm Desktop, then plugin the cable. It didn't pop out message saying install any driver or something.
Is there anyway to fix this? I tried to reboot computer few times, doesn't work either.

ps: if i tape data import application on th55, the computer will detect it as usb mass storage and I am able to view the content inside. However, sync never work on me.

Right click on your hotsync manager icon in the PC system tray and make sure "Local USB" is selected (at top of list).

My guess is you have registry issues with your computer. If the device is not recognized by Device Manager, it will never sync. In times past when I had weird things going on, I either rebuilt my PC or restored a much earlier backup.

That happened to me before! Problem was I didn't install the right driver. Everytime I pressed hotsync nothing happened. :p

Did you install the right driver? Uninstall everything you installed, including the Palm Desktop. Restart and install Palm Desktop again. Then hotsync. If a window comes up asking for the driver, install the "Clhs0144" driver. If you dont have it you can get the TH55 hotsync driver here.http://www.sonyclie.org/drivers.html.

After you install it hotsync again and it should work.

Well, maybe I should try reinstall my computer but that is my last option because I need to backup so many stuff first

Thanks for the useful site.
I uninstalled Palm Desktop and reinstall it but still no driver asking window when I plug in the usb cable. Seems the wrong driver is in computer's memory?

I found out that everytime after I install the Palm Desktop, I will see Cile SCSI Driver installed under Add/Remove Program List. Is that the reason my th55 can not be detected by using USB cable? anyway to fix this? I tried to uninstall that Cile SCSI Driver then plug in my th55 again, still nothing happen...........

Don't uninstall Palm Desktop again because I don't think that will help any.

Follow these steps:

Go to the start menu and go to "run.."

In the run window, type cmd and click ok.

When the cmd window pops up type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit enter.

Next, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

A device manager window will pop up and then go to view and then click show hidden devices.

Choose the driver you think is the wrong one and right click and uninstall. If you see "Palm Handheld" you might want to uninstall it.

Restart the machine and hotsync once you get back to windows. If a window pops up asking for the driver, install "Clhs0144".

If a window doesnt pop up throw your computer in the trash. :D

I followed those steps you said but can not find anything to uninstall under device manager. Also I tried to use the other computer to install th55 by following the instruction booklet...but still no luck.

I start to think if there is anything wrong on my th55? But when use data import, the computer can detect it as Sony USB Mass Storage though
However, every time when I install the Palm Desktop, "Cile SCSI Driver" will show in "Add/Remove Programs"...why is that? I never get driver asking window...

In device manager, did you expand the list of "Other devices?" Tell me what you see in there.

If you don't see anything connect your TH55 to another USB port, then hotsync. A window asking for a driver will pop up if you connect it to another USB port. Then you can install the driver. Make sure it is "Clhs0144"

If you can do this, you should be able to hotsync with no problems! :)

I don't have other devices icon under device manager

where did you see sony handheld belong to under device manager when hotsync works properly?

It's possible your USB controller and or hub(s) drivers are corrupt. In device manager delete the hubs first and then the controllers until you have no USB items showing. Quit device manager and reboot your PC WITH YOUR SONY CABLED TO ONE OF THE USB PORTS. Drivers should automatically install as "new devices are found" as part of the bootup process. Hopefully this will work.

I'm having some of the same problems, except I know that my TH55 works, because I've gotten it to hotsync before. The cable and USB port are working, because I've used my MP3 player to test it and it worked fine. The hotsync application is running, Palm Desktop is running, and when I tap the hotsync button on my TH55 i hear the device recognition sound. It's worked before, and it should work now. For a while I used some of the old hardware from my TG50 to hotsync, but that would only work about every 7th time. Now I'm using the TH55 accessories that came with the PDA, and every other time I've used it it worked the first time. I've rebooted both my PC and my PDA countless times... Anyone else have a problem like this?

I know this an old thread, but has anyone found a solution? My TH55 has stopped syncing via cable all together. It is not recognized by the computer (no sounds of recognition, etc.). I have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling Palm Desktop without any success. I've looked at the TH55 contacts and they are all intact and in perfect condition. I cannot figure out why it isn't working. I've tried data import without any success - no connection could be established. There's nothing wrong with the adapter or usb cable (as I can sync the T665C without any problems). Now I'm wondering if there's a cable inside that might have come loose. I haven't opened it up to find out (not a tech guy when it comes to taking things apart and putting them back together again). I have tried other USB ports with the same result - no recognition from the computer.

I've even tried this on my notebook as well and it's giving me the same problems as listed above. Anyone got any ideas???

The real kicker is that it can sync through wifi, but not the cable. WTF?! So I know hotsync should work, but not with the cable.

It's frustrating as I'm passing this (and my notebook) on to my brother to use as I no longer have any use for them (I'm spending more time on my desktop and PPC). If I can't get the darn thing to work via cable, I'm just about to chuck it across the room...

Thanks in advance.

This may not help, because I have no understanding of why my TH55 stopped hotsync'ing, and also no understanding why this technique cured the problem.

After months of no hotsync'ing, I put in the original Sony Clie TH55 CD and selected to install Palm Desktop (the first choice), then chose "Repair." I believe I installed the SCSI driver when asked. Anyway, this worked, don't know why.
