and they all look like shi* in LowRes- .........
When is AvantGo moving to the 21 century?
I still use it because it's so easy to select what you want, hotsync and go. I prefer the look of iSilo but it's kind of a P in the A to set up and sync up everyday.

Fuse both apps together and I'd be happy.......finally

Curious how it lost my userid and I did not shut down the browser.
Using Beta Avantgo 5.2 Build 65 which DOES support HiRes+ and syncing to the MS.

CatChow.com to go
Daily Wisdom To Go

CNET News.com
CNNmoney - very good finance info
Hollywood.com - Has current movies and listings for your area
Metacritic.com - This is a fantastic movie reviews page !!
Palm Boulevard
PalmJokes.com - only 1 or 2 jokes ... what a waste !
PalmPower Magazine - Good PDA news
PC World.com
Pocket PC Life
USA Today
Yahoo!

If you don't have Plucker yet ... get this too!!

Then you can download other pages which AvantGo (may or may not have) have, like:
The Onion - very funny political stuff
Wired Magazine - Tech trends, etc.
PDA buzz
Business Week

You can also have Plucker download websites of your choice, and format them to PDA size
(although .. not all webpages reformat to easily read on a PDA)

By the way .... this topic is a great idea !!!

:D :D :D

Not such a P in the A at all. I followed the instructions posted in this thread and it syncs daily....no fuss...no muss.

Oh, forgot to add. To get the websites into iSilo, simply drag and drop the URL into iSiloX. Or follow the "document / add" way within iSiloX.

I dont get it anniebluesky, I have tried saving the file and draging it over the iSiloX shortcut but this doesnt work, nor anything else I have tried.
Is there really a way to use iSilo without laboriously saving the page, and going through all the isilox steps?
I love the way iSilo reads the docs but I hate converting them, its just too much work to be practical for anything.

regular avantgo channels:

- accuweather.com
- american medical news
- astrolgy.com
- cnn
- health news digest
- new york time - arts
- rollingstone.com
- salon

custom channels:

- yahoo tv, setup at tv.yahoo.com for your area, need to allow tables for it to work

Im using up 1285k. I like avantgo because its so easy to use. Reading text the res doesnt really matter to me. If anyone knows of any custom channels that work well in avantgo please share!

Let me try to help you. After you get the hang of it, it is simple and painless. Let's say you are on a site that you want to save to iSilo. Here is what you do:

Copy the URL
Open iSiloX
Click 'Document / Add'
Give your page a title
Click next
Click 'Add URL/File...'
Paste the URL in the box and click 'ok / next'
Make sure it is your username in the first box (I don't put anything in the next box.)
Click 'Done'
You should see your page with the title you gave it in the iSiloX window. Right click on that title.
Choose 'Properties' (BTW, in here is where you can make several adjustments, like link depth, etc.)
Click the 'Destination' tab
Right click on your username and choose 'external memory card' if you want it to automatically hotsync to your MS. Click 'ok'.
Back in the iSiloX window, right click once more on the web title, and choose 'Convert'.
When it is done, close iSiloX. It will ask you if you want to save changes. Save them if you plan to update the site. It will have you name the .ixl file...I just call mine WebPages. And that is the file I open when I want to add a new site. But if it is a one time thing, no need for it.

Now, if you want to have it automatically update follow the instructions that I posted here:

http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10341&highlight=isilo

If you have anymore questions, ask. I'll be happy to try and help. Also, look at www.turcic.com (http://www.turcic.com) for more information on setting it up, and finding PDA friendly sites to add.

I also used to Avantgo, however thanks to the kind people on Cliesource I've seen the error in my ways and switched to iSilo. I've been using iSilo for about a year now. For those not familiar with iSilo, here's an analogy: Avantgo is to iSilo as a 2mb Palm Zire is to a Sony Clie NZ!!

These are the sites I have on iSilo:

CNN
Fantagraphics Comics
HollyWood.com
Maxim
Palm InfoCenter
The Onion
USA Today
Weather
Christian Cartoons

Currently I have:

AccuWeather
All The News From Reuters - US
Amiright Misheard Lyrics (kinda dumb)
Astrology.com
Daily Almanac
Emazing.com Horoscopes
Heavens-Above
PDABuzz.com
SciFi Channel
Space.com

The Sci-Fi channel I'm trying as a Custom channel. The channel NEVER syncs on the first try. For some reason it ALWAYS times out. Any help on that??

I haven't used Avantgo for a year or so, because it's kind of antiquated, but here's my sources anyway.

Daily:

The Washington Post
NY Times
Yahoo! News
NY Post (for PageSix)
Slate
The National Journal
Wired
Daily Comix (an ecclectic Alex Turcic mix)
A few RSS feeds clipped through IE (via the tres cool new iSiloX beta)
Plus two on-line pay news services my company subscribes to

Once a week add-ons:

The Economist
Clie Planet
The Gadgeteer
Metacritic
The Onion

I might add that I've scaled back on my reading recently, and this doesn't count my books.

We published a iSilo-plucker comparison - you can find it here: http://www.turcic.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=492 . Some people may call it biased; but I am ready to add anything that I may have forgotten to mention.

...I dunno. That is the ONLY channel that times out on me. I mean EVERY sync! Ironically, the Sci-Fi.com website introduced me to AvantGo! Figures, eh?? Matter of fact, just last night (out of anger and desperation), I finally sent a few mails to them about it. We'll see what happens when (if) they get back to me...

My officemate has problems syncing to the Sci Fi channel on Avantgo recently also, but I do not. Of course that could be because he is still using a Palm IIIc and I have the CLIE NX70V.

I agree that AvantGo needs to add hi-res to OS4. However I have tried plucker, iSilo etc. None are as simple to use as Avantgo. One time setup.. choose your channels... sync and go everyday. No manual updates, no fiddling around.

My Channels:
NY Times
CNN
MSNBC Headlines
Palm Infocenter
PDABuzz
Space.com
ThatsRacin
The Sporting News
USA Today
AccuWeather

All on a free account.

I use the same main link that shows the timeout in my synchronization history. That is: http://www.scifi.com/handheld/. That would try and get me the main page. Then I would also try: http://www.scifi.com/handheld/schedulebot_hh.php3, to at least get the schedule... I've also tried: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/handheld.html. Sometimes that worked. As of late, they all time out... Hmm...

As of last night, I just removed the channel completely. I'll wait and see if I get ANY response to my email I sent AvantGo on Sunday...
