I'm trying to download the Matrix movie to my MS. After using DVDX to rip the movie I'm using Clie converter to transfer to my MS. The entire movie is being ripped to my hard drive (I can watch the entire movie on my computer) but the entire file is not being transferred to my MS. I am getting an error message saying "cant load file".ONly about half the movie is being transferred. I am using long play mode in converter but when watching the movie on my NX70 the movie ends after about 1 hour and 17 minutes. I dont think its a problem with room on my MS because I still have 46.3 MB free out of 123.6 MB.
Thanks for taking time away from everyone's CF card to help!

the Matrix is just too big for the 128mb card :-( sorry been there tried to do that.. the movie itself is 2hours 11mins long. = 131mins ( LP is is just under 1 meg per min) so the max you would be able to get is (available 123mb) 1 hr 23mins , the only wat to do it is to crop the 9 mins off.. and for me.. i could not face cropping the movie

Doesn't that image convertor automatically chop files into 128MB segments?

I couldnt edit it either. Oh well, just another reason to get the CF driver tomorrow.

I actually have a similar problem. I have ripped Matrix and encoded it to a MPEG1 file of approx. 1.3 GB. I then used Image Converter to convert to MQV and upload it to my 256MB MSPro.
I then find two MQV files on my memory stick. It's the whole movie, but split into two files. Caipro could be right that Image converter splits the files into128MB segments as the first segment has approx. 124MB. Why is that?
I guess that Image Converter was created when SONY did not yet think of MS Pro.
Moreover, the process of
1. ripping the DVD to HD
2. encoding to MPEG1
3. encoding to MQV and transfering to MS
is quite time consuming.
I am looking for a solution to rip the CD to HD and convert it directly to a MQV file.
Does anybody know whether Quicktime 6.1 Pro can do that? This would be great and would save a lot time.

i finally conceded that untill it is sorted i only encode episodes of my favourite shows im on a League of Gentlemen run at present...but a point to note is that.. i dont think anyone is having this issue with the CF cards.. so i think Andy japan is right.. and yet another reason i will not buy the MS pro's (besides being damn expensive) i just got a 512mb cf card for £75uk
also try DVDx i encode to mpeg from DVD then just transfer to MS
1,encode from DVD to HD
2,convert to MS

The matrix does fit on one MS, as long as you clip the last 6 minutes of titles and the 30 seconds of studio information it goes down to 117mb.
I used Gordian knot to rip to DIVX5, 720mb, and then back through virtualdub to remove the first 30s and last 6 minutes or so (from just after Neo flies up into the sky). This gives me a file of 680mb, convenient for archiving on one audio cd.
Then I put it back the DIVX through virtualdub:
set compression to mpeg4
set audio processing to full
set audio to MSADPCM
set volume to 200% - 250% as the volume always comes in a bit light on the Clie.
This gives you a file of approx 1.3gb. This can then be run through image converter leaving a nice tidy 117mb file to fit on a 128mb memory stick.
I also used virtualdub to extract the last 25 mins of the film, from the beginning of the lobby scene through to the end which creates a 25mb extract. This does not fill your ms but will impress the hell out of everyone in the office as it contains some of the best action.
There are some good threads in the video section which describe how to do this, the best ripping s/w seems to be available from www.doom9.org
good luck

Thanks for the reply. I had no idea what you were saying, but the link to the web site was very helpful so next week I will have a better idea what you were saying.
Thanks again

I have yet to rip a dvd (mainly because I don't trust my horrible windows ME system to not crash in the process) and am waiting to get my GIG cf card. How much time are we talking about? From start to finish. R any of you guys who've done it interested in sharing?

It does take some time but its not like you have to sit at the computer for the entire process. I ripped the matrix while watching "24" on TV then ran image coonverter overnight. The next morning it was ready. As far as sharing, I'm all for it. I dont know if we can use this forum to distribute copyrighted material so if not, e-mail me.

roughly it takes me 1.5 times longer than whatever i am ripping then about half the time again to transfer to ms,
also i just realised rather than using multiple programs you can manually set DVDx to encode up to a certain point so as SIMONT says you can cut the last bit off and fit most of the movie onto a 128mb card. :-) COOL i am no wizard with pc's so that is whyi prefer to use just the one program and it works fine.. i am goin to trythis later to see if i can actually acheive it.. theory is fine.. lol.. but i need to see it works..

That sounds great, but can you figure out how to start ripping 5-10 minutes into the movie to bypass the opening credits as well as stopping before the closing credits?

If all you want to do is reduce the size then try getting virtualdub (its freeware) off www.doom9.org.
There is a thick line across the bottom of the screen when you open the AVI to edit. Drag the pointer across the bar whilst watching frames skip past on the screen. When you get to where you want to start click on the start here icon, the same with the end, its quite easy. Make sure video and audio processing are set to direct and save the AVI. It will output the format you put in, but start and end where you set it.
If processing is set to direct it shouldn't take more than half an hour to complete.
Good luck
