OK, mine is doing it now too.
I did flog it pretty well on a bicycle ride in spain, but it never hit the ground, just shaken.
Got home, a week later it started freezing after I plugged in the hotsync cable. I reset it, then plugged in the hotsync cable while powered on, it was fine.
Now, nothing. the charge light blinks, and goes out. I push reset, it boots into the first white palm screen, goes to the second grey screen, and resets. this will continue forever. if you try to do a hard reset, it shows the reset screen, but whatever you choose, it shuts down.
I did put the CF card upgrade, that works VERY well. So, I thought I would re-image the CF card, but it does the same thing
Also tried the tips in the Resetting constantly thread.
bummer, eh? Brick?

Hi Mendodave,
It sounds like you're stuck in the reset loop, which is usually caused by third-party applications or extensions that are not compatible with the LifeDrive. To get out of the reset loop, you'll need to perform a system reset, also known as a warm reset. For details, explanations, and instructions, see this article (http://www.palmone.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26419) in the Palm Support Knowledge Library.
Let us know how this works for you.
best,
Heather

Have you still got your microdrive - try putting this in in case the cf is dodgey.

Peter: I still have the microdrive, so I'll try that.
Heather, it won't go past the reset screen. If I want to choose secure reset, or any of the other choices, it goes to a black screen...dead. I push the reset button, and it goes into the loop.
I got a new lifedrive, can't be without one now, and I get the same problem that precluded this problem. If the LD is off, and I plug in the usb/charge cable, with or without the power cable attached, the LD is supposed to boot up and be available for the LD manager. This works, sometimes. What happens other times is the HD access light blinks, and the unit is dead. Only thing that works is a warm reset. I just did a secure reset to see if this happens without my data.

OK, I have the MD and the stock battery back in it, same reboot cycle. First Palm screen with the progress bar, then it shifts to the gray screen with Palm logo, then reset.
If you go to do the hard reset, the screen with your choices comes up, any of which causes the palm to turn off.
Any ideas welcome!
I might just take it apart to look for obvious issues

From what you describe and not actually seeing your unit, I say there's nothing you can do. I once worked a problem quite similar to what you describe although that unit was only several months after a warranty repair. I had a "bad" LD and a "good" LD next to each other, where the bad one was behaving much like you described. I individually swapped out each of the "bad" components into the good LD and guess what...everything worked correctly. It was the "motherboard" that went south. I find no explanation for 3rd party apps causing hard resets to fail. That's the whole point of a hard reset.

Yes, I think you are correct, mrp123.
too bad, too! my replacement is under warranty, I think, at least I registered it, and hopefully it is warranteed. That means I can't put my CF card in it! :(
but, i have bunch of expensive spare parts!

davidI know its not likely to work but you could try charging the palm before resetting. Note: Whenevr you charge the lifedrive at the same time as hard resetting stuff goes wrong (in my case) but you could try charging it for 20 minutes and then resetting but I am not hopeful.
