:( I'm trying to HotSync using a USB cable. But I'm getting a message on the CLie (T665) that says "Unable to initiate Hot Sync operation because the port is in use by another application." No other application is in use. Any ideas?
Many, many thanks
try to disable the hotsync monitor (on your desktop application under setup) and re-enable it... that should help...
cheers Nicolas

I've had that problem before and it was a PC issue. Rebooting the PC fixed it.

I have had the issue before too.
Re-booting should work.
Another thing I try when I am busy is to restart the hotsynch manager AND I plug the cradle into a different USB port on my hub.

I had this problem when I installed a new version of Palm Desktop onto a PC when I changed devices (from a Palm IIIc to a Clie NR70).
Although I had uninstalled everything I do not know how many times a file remained that was like the ghost of my IIIC profile; in the end Clie support in the UK advised me on how to find the file and manually delete it..
Not much help I guess - sorry :(

Thanks for all the replies. I tried rebooting, disabling monitor, and a different USB port. No luck. Also tested the cable on another computer. It works fine. I'm guessing 1) another application has hijacked the USB ports. Any suggestions to find out and delete it? Or 2) I have a faulty USB conroller card (which I doubt.)
BTW, I love Clie Source.

Kazaa...............do you have this spywear. If it boots up on start-up it opens up all kinds of ports.

Cool. I'll try Kazaa and let you know. Thx.

Okay, I need to back up re: Kazaa. Why would spyware allow me to free up a USB port?

I had the same problem a couple of days ago and it almost drove me nuts. My problem was a bluetooth USB adapter which I installed to sync my Clie and it hijacked my ports. I deinstalled the USB adapter software and then it was back to normal again.

Chris

I had a similar problem, it was saying the port was in use on my clie and XP said it couldn't recognize the device.
It turned out to be a cradle problem. The connections weren't making a good contact with my clie. If I tilted my NR forwared slightly it would hotsync fine. So now I have gently eased the cradle connecter forward.
Has anyone else experienced this?
If this doesn't help try it on another machine if you have one availiable?

Never mind, you obviously are not using Kazaa. I was saying that if you where using it that it could be the problem.

I had the problem as well, re-booting seems to fix it... If that dosn't work make sure the hot-sync icon is shown on the bottom right of your monitor, if not go to your palm directory and start hot-sync.

Problem solved by uninstalling Palm Desktop and installing CLie Desktop, which is too bad since I like the Palm features better. Interestingly, though, Palm Desktop works fine at my office with Windows 2000. Does not work at home with Windows ME.

I had the same problem as peterh with my T665. If I move the Clie around a little in the cradle it works fine.

I have the same problem with my Clie. I originally only had 2 usb ports. So I unplugged my cradle and plugged in my Sony camera to move photos off of my camera. After that when I plugged my clie in I got the message that the "Port was in use by another application." I added a usb card to my computer and I still get the same message. I disabled my computers onboard usb and still get the same message. I did a hard and soft reset of my Clie and same message. I"ve unintalled the Palm Desktop and reinstalled and I get the same message. I am at a total loss here. Hope someone can give me some ideas. Thanks,
Dan.

Have you gone into device manager into in the control panel..you can find what usb devices are installed delete one you are presently not using... it will install again when you use another app and also make sure your user name comes up in setup or whatever and also make sure the clie is under pref setup for cable\cradle the pref can get corrupted sometime especially if you have had a crash recently.

I'm not sure if I've tried that yet. I have a usb mouse so, it kind of a pain in the butt. About half the time when I turn on the computer it says it does'nt detect the mouse, so I'm not sure what that's about. Then it installs it. But sometimes it does'nt work and I have to restart. I'll try what you said. I'm still wondering myself if the onboard usb can be run with the usb card. It did'nt seem to make a difference when I disabled it. I may just resort to reformatting my drive.
Thanks BluePrt,
Dan.
