Ok, so I got the zire 71 earlier today.. and I cannot get it to connect to my computer.. when i try to hotsync it, it says it's connecting.. but then it doesnt.. I have tried a bunch of sites to use their troubleshoot pages.. and no luck there. I am sure I dont have it setup right.. So, can you guys tell me what to select on the hotsync setup and stuff.. and on the PDA what to put on there to get it to connect? This is what I'm using
I am using a cradle that has a USB connector at the end. I use a modem that hooks to a wireless router. I have a wireless usb connector on this computer, so there isn't any cords.. so i dont know if i should put usb, network, cable.. god.. i dont know.. please help! I need to download some software.. and can't figure this out!!!!!! Thanks in advance!

1) You have to have the Palm Desktop software installed first on your PC
2) Make sure the connector on the bottom of the Zire and on the HotSync cradle is clean
3) Plunk Zire on to cradle
4) Press the HotSync button

That is all.

or hook it up, put in cradle, choose hot sync from program list on palm and tap the red/blue icon. i've got a used 71 and the hot sync button wont work on the cradle.

need desktop regardless

HotSync should be "Local" (above the blue and red button in the middle), and "Cradle/Cable" (below the big red and blue button). That's it really. One other thing you could do is to try it on another USB port on your computer. Also, sometimes Wind0ze goofs up and you have to delete the "Palm Device" under Device Manager (sometimes it's hidden), then attempt to HotSync again and let Windows automatically reinstall the driver for it.

or you can download some kind of soft which will use your zire's memory card as a removable drive? in that way you can move all downloaded software directly to memory card without any slow kinda hotsyncs...

I personnally use a cardreader for all that. Since the zire has very low memory, I keep all my prc's on card, and If you want to have a file in internal memory, use Filez.
