With Palm announcing their Tungsten C with 64 MB Ram (51 available),

Brighthand Tungsten C Review (http://www.brighthand.com/article/Tungsten_C_Preliminary_Review)

Sony will have no choice but to include 64 MB RAM in their next releases of their high-end models. Does this seem realistic for the next NX model?:

Palm OS 5.2
64 MB RAM
400 MHz XScale processor
Built in bluetooth
*CF expansion slot (I wonder if this will be eliminated now that drivers exist for CF memory. Maybe it will have built in WiFi instead?).
320x480 hi-res screen with Graffiti 2
Full MSPro support with faster data transfer rate
2 megapixel camera (probably without flash)

Most importantly, I'm looking forward to the extra RAM to run Mapopolis and some of my medical software like ePocrates that cannot be run from the MS.

seems really nice idea, but if the make another model like the nz, no thanks, seems too big, i think the nx size is good, i just wish they gave us more reassurance on the durability of the nx....i feel pain when ever i twist and close it.....i dont want anything to get loose!!!, i have no warrenty......it feels fine to me. but after reading what others have said...makes me feel like it will fall apart into pieces in my hand...i wish the nx could last forever..its so cool....and wow...if it could read cf, that would be so much more useful

After seeing the specs on the Tungsten C, the next NX has to have at least these specs to make it. I hope it has built-in WiFi and dual Memory Stick slots too.

I am really tempted by the T|C, but I can't help but think that the next CLIE will be designed almost specifically to blow this effort away...

Least we know with this new release of Tungsten C, Sony is now facing a strong competitor. What will Sony do to maintain their piece of the consumer market? Only time will tell.....

But competition is good, let them fight all over this issue and we'll get to benefit from it.... :D

Hope to hear from SONY on their next Clie ASAP. I believe there are many of them eyeing at the T/C now.

I will definitely wait to see what Sony puts out next. I'm not willing to give up my 320x480 screen and, mostly, this forum just yet. I'm sure Sony will come out with something better. BTW, I didn't see any mention of bluetooth on the T/C.

Sorry Shogmaster for even suggesting such a horrible thing. Maybe we could have built-in WiFi and the CF slot both!! (Yeah right.) But seriously, where does Sony stand to lose more revenue: lost MS sales because of the CF memory driver or lost sales of the WLAN if no CF slot?

I would think that a large portion of current NX/NZ users would not make the upgrade if the CF slot was not included in future versions.

Since the WL110 is coming out, then I don't think Sony is ready to abandon the CF slot just yet!

Please remember, Sony wants to get you coming and going :D!

Man... sometimes i feel like i'm the only one happy with their device! I for one will not get the new device whether sony comes out w/ one soon or not. I LIKE MY NX. And it serves me VERY WELL. I don't see the need for a new device... why spend another $500-$600 when i can use mine right now. I know, i know... cause you gotta have the latest and greatest right?

Oh no... Sony will forget about the existing NZ/NX user by removing the CF slots as it make it too big to compete with Palm T/C!!

I just hope they will create 2 type of NX. One with CF the other without.

Funny, I was coming to this forum to start a thread on this very topic.

The Tungsten C does challenge Sony's designers. The next high-end Sony device is going to have to offer more than 11 MB of usable RAM, thank goodness. Fortunately, Sony can use the same
memory breakthrough (http://www.brighthand.com/article/PalmOS_Devices_with_128MB_of_RAM) that Palm did to include more than 16 MB of RAM. Here's hoping we see a 128 MB soon.

And the 400 MHz processor is a no brainer. Sony needs to keep up.

If sony doesn't match the T|C with 400mhz Xscale 255, Builtin Wifi, 64MB and OS 5.2.1 ( I could care less about bluetooth) They may just see me going back to palm. I'd rather get a sony for the larger screen it's a big draw but not if Sony is loosing it's edge.

I still prefer bigscreen with better quality LCD, better video and Digicam and since we can have more than 1gb CF or MSPro, why do we need so much ram which might need extra battery life to run. Once it's happen to be hard reset, all data will be lost.

Unless Sony got the 64 mb and above + built-in WIFI + 400mhz + longer battery life for 2MP or more Digicam with flash, I might get one.

I can't see them losing their edge. Let's wait for the next model before we start criticizing them.

This pretty much means they have to have 64 MB of RAM (if they were surprised by Palm, no doubt they are re-speccing the next NX) ... I'd like to see a 1 MB camera, wi-fi (no Bluetooth, unless they include both, please), CF and MS slots, same formfactor as the NX.

YTTAN, Looks like the New Tungsten C and Zire have the same LCD quality as the sonys now.

now the t|c makes the nz IMHO just a clumsy camera with pda attached.

i'm sure sony will adopt most of the specs. as somebody mentioned something about a potential nx73 and nx83 why should sony not offer two models (like toshiba or dell do):

my suggestions (and hopes):

nx73v AND nx83v
==================================
palm os 5.2.1 palm os 5.2.1
64mb ram 128 mb ram
250mhz cpu 400mhz cpu
hires+ hires
bluetooth built-in bluetooth built-in
wlan optional (via ms) wlan built-in
"old" 640x480 camera "new" 800x600+ camera
TWO ms-pro slots TWO ms-pro slots
"old" keyboard "improved" keyboard
NO CF NO CF
built-in battery exchangeable battery

i don't think sony will stick with the CF, not for the CF-driver but just as it won't make any more sense to them as WLAN comes built-in or even in ms format. let's just hope the ms pro prices will drop soon.

i would like to ms-slots (copying files, using i/o-ms together with
data, etc.) though!

the extra space from the cf could be used for a better (double capacity) battery.

i'm sure sony won't improve the camera too much as the role of the cam-pda is already fulfilled with the nz.

I've been using my NR-70V since it came out, and I'm happy with it for now.

That's primarily because none of the newer devices have drawn me away. PalmOS 5 is only now starting to look tempting (newer software, drivers, etc), the CF slot is now useable for more than just WiFi (although I do like the WiFi), and built-in Bluetooth is becoming near-standard (I have the BT MS, but it doesn't "fit" with my Vaja Dyna case fully on).

I'd like a device with more memory (I'm perpetually running at just over 1 meg left on my NR by choice), a faster processor, built-in bluetooth, the better keyboard (I prefer the NZ's to the NR's), Sony's "trademark" Hires+ screen, AND a hotsync port that will work with the Stowaway (or the new small Stowaways made compatible with the NX/NZ's connector layout).

To put it simply, I'd buy a thinner NZ with more memory that was compatible with the Stowaway Keyboards. Hopefully Sony's got something like that planned next.
