Welcome to the club. I hope you are enjoying the pure visual beauty of the VZ90 screen. Still quite impressive after almost a year and the battery life is great too.

Make sure sure also visit dragongames helpful links here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115990)
in addition to the stickies.

hihi, thank you but i have to say that the begining is difficult !

1/I cannot find a full screen keyboard for this machine, but i really need it

2/Video ability is worse than the wonderfull NX80V, the intel CPU is faster to read full resolution videos (480 x 320) at full framerate, with a little overclocking (300 MHz) on the VZ, the same video can only run at Half framerate, and is still not smooth (with TCPMP) ...

... but the screen, oh my god, this screen !!!

I am now dreaming of a NX80V with this screen :p

Frankly, i don't know if i will keep the VZ, the NX80V is better on many points ...

1. I am looking for the same thing... :(

2. With the PSP setting on FFPMEG software, I am able to play at 30FPS with ease.

Yep, the screen is amazing. Nothing like it.

Yes, but the PSP setting doesn't make Full resolution videos, you are stuck to 320x240 ...
On my NX80V, i used to watch videos in 480x320 ...

For the software keyboard, it seems that it simply doesn't exist.
Something is almost that : Mobile office have a large keyboard, but too small for thumbs.

Mini keyboard doesn't run fullscreen in the VZ, Touch me run fullscreen but only in portrait mode, and is not so convenient ... thumbboard doesnt want to run ... and Tejpwriter ... run only in 320x320 on clies ...

But you can set it to PSP then change the dimensions. :)
Oh, BTW, it doesn't play 30 FPS from the CF, only 25.

I'm retarded, I forgot to ask this... ...
On TCPMP do you have the HHE Plugin installed? You need that for 30 FPS video.

Heya dude !
Thankyou for your tips !!!
You are not retarded hihi, actually, maybe I am ... haha !!!

Huh ??? i already tried to make videos in FFMPEGX using the PSP profile somebody posdted on these forums, it works fine, but not if i change the resolution. 320x240 is ok, but not 480x176 or anything else : media launcher can see it but says it's not a valid video (like in the movie GATTACA : NOT VALID).

For TCPMP, i have HHe plugin, thankyou ! In fact, i cannot play 480x320 at full speed, but 12 fps is OK.

Have you tried playing a PSP Video, setting it to 480x320 and loading it up in TCPMP? (that's what I do). Also, are you playing video off the memory stick or compact flash. CF plays at 25 FPS, MS and Internal Media at 30 FPS.

Huh ???
I didn't try to load PSP videos in TCPMP !
I just tried it now withe QVGA video which is ok with media launcher, it works but is not so smooth than in the clie player ...
I will try anyway at full resolution and 24fps

Can i ask you what are the settings of your player ?

Oh, excuse me for making it personal ... i am curious ... what softs do you use on the VZ ??? Maybe your answer could give me new ideas ! :D

Arigato gozaimasu !!!
Merci beaucoup !!!

So, following your tips, i made a video with ffmpegx (i have an ibook too !), using the profile found on this forume "MP4updated.ffx"
I just changed the size for 480x320, increased the bitrate at 400 and changed the framerate to NTSC film (23,9 fps).

I can open it in TCPMP but it is very very very jerky !

What is your magic if you can get it work ???

Oh your on Mac OS X... that makes things a lot easier... :)
I use FFMPEGX and set it to the PSP profile, and convert it. I keep everything the same unless I am going to put it on the compact flash (I set it to 25FPS).

Hmmm, thank you for the tip.

It works more-or-less, depending on the movements of the movie ... when everything moves, it becomes very very jerky, but can be very smooth on quiet scenes ...

Increasing the bitrate won't help. Over an average of 400kbps, the movie becomes even more jerky.

So this is when your playing from a MS or CF?
Well, if TCPMP is acting up, Media Launcher can read PSP formated movies (FFMPEGX converting to the regular PSP proffile). Try doing that and see how it is.

Heya, thanks for your help again.

I made all my tests using only the MS.
The only way to get full screen smooth movies seems to be to use basic PSP format (320x240) and play it with media launcher.
Practically, my NX80V is a lot better for video, because i can play full resolution DivX 480x320 at 25 fps with a bitrate about 500, with a little overclocking (300MHz)
When it seems impossible to achieve the same on the VZ90. I never got acceptable 480 x 320 movies ...

Once again, stuck to the Sony system : You buy their devices, you have to use it only with their software and only as they decided you should use it ...

Thats strange... is there something slowing your VZ90 down? My VZ90 does it fine, and the VZ90 has an HHE Processor with video exceleration. Maybe it only works in MP4? Have you tried converting to MP4 with 480x320 and 30FPS for TCPMP or Media Launcher.

Well, i am surprised to read that !
... And interested too !!!

I tried a scene from the movie "Lord of the Rings" (croped before conversion, to have the video full screen). It's the battle between Gandalf an the Nazgull. i encoded in MP4, PSP profile on ffmpegx at 480x320 at 25 fps (original framerate of my french DVD) at 300kbps.

On TCPMP :
It is very jerky.

I have TCPMP 0.72RC1, the HHE plugin installed.
Preferences are set this way :
General prefs by default
Video prefs zoom full 100%, rotate follow gui, landscape, all colors settings at 0, dither colors is not checked, normal quality, Sony GE2D, auto
Audi prefs stereo, disable audi decoding not checked
Advanced options : nothing checked except "no additional safe event checking"

On Media launcher :
Video is dot compatible.

Could you tell me your settings ?

Thanks for your help !

Have you tried 30FPS?

totololo
10-22-2006, 05:11 PM
I just tried : 30 fps, PSP profile, full res video 480x320 ... so jerky that its like a slide show on TCPMP. Media launcher connot open the file.

Hmm, i wonder what is wrong ! I tried 2 different memorysticks, same result.

Hmm ... maybe ... i didn't install the TCPMP files via Palm desktop but only by copying the files in the clie memory, from the memorystick. Could it be a problem ?

Thats... very strange... any apps installed that could be slowing your VZ90 down?

I installed it the same way, and it works fine for me... idk...

I just tried after a hard reset, with nothing else installed than Unicommand as a file browser and TCPMP :
Tcmpm.prc
and even only AAC/FFMPEG/MP3MPEG4/SonyHHE plugins just to have the minimum install !

Same result !

Is there any test video working on your machine that i could try ?
Did you check on your VZ if the quality setting is on normal ?

BTW: why not use the built-in video codecs and FullMoviePlayer ??
http://www.aibohack.com/clie/fullmovie.htm
Discussion on full movie formats: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70005
ie. you can get 480x320 easily, but you need to lower the frame rate (to 15 or 20 fps), which you usually won't notice.

re: TCPMP frame rates
In my experience, TCPMP will drop frames if it can't keep up (ie. you may not be getting the playback frame rate you were expecting, unless you check the number of dropped frames). Depending on the encoding (and the movie) that may or may be irritating.

re: Memory sticks
The streaming speed of memory sticks can vary significantly. Start with 320x240 at 30fps (768kbps, one of the standard settings) and see if you have streaming problems.

Hah, i don't have easy access to a PC, i use an iBook. So, i cannot use IC 2.
If i encode the videos in MP4 with ffmpegx, PSP profile but in 480x320 ... Is there any chance FMP will read it ?
