Palm desktop users

I've been unable to delete a former user, as it keeps asking for a password. How do I delete it so that I can use the same sync name with a new device?
Tried deleting user name in the Win XP registry, but that didn't help! Any idea?

When is it asking you for the password, when you first start the Palm Desktop, when you try to delete the user, or other?
Do you currently have more than one user defined in Palm Desktop?

Tried deleting user name in the Win XP registry, but that didn't help! Any idea?The users defined are actually stored USERS.DAT in the root of the Palm directory (usually C:\Program Files\Palm or \PalmOne). However, that does not actually help (well maybe as a last resort).
