I played with the Toshiba e755 in the store - man, that is one pretty screen. It would be nice if Pocket PC had higher resolutions

PXA255 - the 400 Mhz CPU with 200 Mhz bus speed. It is FAST.
320x320 screen.
Er, not sure what else to write up, since I have not used Palms in so long.

Looks like Palm finally announced the unit!
I am taking mine back tomorrow, though. Nice, but for $500, stereo sound would have been nice, ya know?

very nice. I think it's an excellent handheld... but I really hate the design. Wish it looks more Sony-ish :p

Wow. Link is here:
http://www.palm.com/products/handhelds/tungsten-c/
I still can't believe there is a Palm with a 400mhz cpu now. 2 years ago we were still at 16mhz right?
As I'm browsing through they are still uploading the images.

In addition, palm has (finally) beefed up the RAM to 64MB and features a built-in WiFi. Palm devices are definately going to catch up to current PPC devices.

It is a slick unit in terms of specs.
One thing about Pocket PC that I prefer over Palm - the ability to have both HOME and WORK addresses in the same single contact on the PDA. Sometimes I need both, and it seems silly to have to store two different contacts.
Focus of programs is also a bit sloppy. Should be able to multitask better.
That said, I will say that WorldMate on the Tungsten C is faster than it is on my Toshiba e740. That is one very nice app.

Cool! I've been griping about the PXA250 and it's mediocre performance for almost 5 months now, so It's good to see all PDAs adopting the new PXA255.
The only thing left for PALM is the OS, so when version 6 is released PALM's will be the best PDAs overall on the market IMHO.

If Sony made a TG-50 with WiFi, and TRUE full contact storage, I'd dump my Pocket PC in a moment. :)

SuperNames can do this, I can add as many addresses to one contact as I want.
One of the main reasons I carry my Clie' around more then my PPC.

"Of course, a big chunk of this isn't available to the user. There is 51 MB of user-accessible RAM."
From Brighthand review.
Only 51 mb accessible by the user! Is that all!

Jack, so I don't go ripping the Tungsten C box just to check it out:
Does this app sync over the home and work addresses from Palm Desktop or Entourage or AddressBook.app (or whatever you use on the desktop) seamlessly? Or do you have to fiddle with it?

If it had bluetooth and CF instead of that SD, I'd get it in a sec!! But it still is great pda!! I'm still waiting for something great to replace my nr70v. I'm looking for the processor, the screen of my NR, wifi, bluetooth, and CF....
hope sony comes out with something like that.. Just not too big...

I had not looked at how it imported the exra info until now. It brings in the first address just fine, but any additional addresses get placed under a note dislplayed like this;
#info
[-Addresses-]
(Address info)
[-End-]

A post from last week mentioned a new Clie' to be announced tomorrow, April 23rd that will compete with the new PALMs.
I've also been interested in something new from SONY, but to be honest I've only had my NR70v since October 2002. It's does what I need so until it breaks no new Clie' for me. But if the new one shipped with Flash Player 6 then I would most likely buy it.

I didn't even catch that, if that's true, that would BYTE!!!
Is PALM trying to run themselves out of business?

So can we take this as confirmation that the T|C has a mono jack?
Yes Jack, this is really a befuddling move on Palm's part.....

Interesting looking device...I'm was tempted to take it over my TG50 when I heard it had wi-fi....but then the pictures loaded....blech! At least my TG50 has a sense of style! I'm just going to wait for a Wi-Fi Memorystick...and maybe that GPS memorystick too :D
P.S. Your serial number is showing...

I think the mono jack also acts as a mic input for voice over IP. I don't know if that's what usually happens if you double the port as both mic and audio out so (reminds me of my nokia earpiece with mono sound and the little in line mic).
The T|C to me has good features.. but like I said earlier, bluetooth is key for my next device as my laptop (mac)has it built in and my cellphone uses it, and I'm just too used to the hiRes+ screen. I tried this morning to use it in square mode 320x320, and just couldn't do it. I could never get used to that again. Viewing iSilo docs/sites is a pain at that res...
And mapopolis... It's great having a larger viewing area with that app as well.. sigh... The way things have been going, we don't get what we want unless it weighs two pounds and has a 20 min battery life.
BTW, I also read that the Bluetooth SDIO card doesn't work with palm OS 5 devices.. Don't know if it's true but it's just something I read on another board.

Yes, the headphone jack is mono. Suck.
Nice:) 51mbRam and 400mhz. Now just add this to my NX and integrate a phone I will be very happy:)
JackAxe

Just imagine if you could open up your NX and put in new components like a PC. It would be just like Star Trek where they combine a Tri-Corder with a Phaser to make a blender.

I'm going to bash my Clie' and PPC together to see if it makes something cool. I'll let you know if it works.

Is there a </ignore> feature on this board?
Yes, it can - hence my request for equity on Palm.

Actually this is not correct, I can't put as many entries in my PPC as in SuperNames, but the PPC offers the following right out of the box:
work tel
mobile tel
home tel
car tel
work tel2
home tel2
radio tel
assistant tel

I want 320x480, VG and no thumbkeyboard more than I want 64 MB RAM.

I think the T|C looks ugly and fat. When is the last time Palm released a flagship product that is in plastic, probably back in the IIIxe days. Despite all that, it's still pretty amazing that Palm finally caught up or exceed (having 64MB RAM in a Palm is like having 128MB in PPC)with PPC specs wise.
