Does anyone know if there is a demo of RAGING THUNDER? It looks like a new racing game for the palm made by Filao Americas. The screenshots look great but I don't want to buy a game based only on pictures. I would want to see if it has smooth fluid game play. Has anyone tried this game?

No I haven't. I would like to hear what people say about it too, looks cool.

I took the chance and bought the game (I particularly like racing games). The graphics are very fluid on the TX. There is no stylus control. It looks as though the five-way nav is necessary. 4 game modes: Time Attack, Quick Race, Arcade and Championship. Language, Music, Sound FX, Vibration (if applicable) and Auto Acceleration are all configurable. Decent instructional help menu, Top Results display and a Profile menu. The game controls are indeed nicely responsive. Graphics are superb. My only real gripe is the lack of full screen support (320x320 only). If you're into racing games, it's a $15 well spent.

Followup (Edit): Game loads fine on the TH55, but there is no way to configure the controls so steering is a no go. Filao either needs to make the controls configurable, or someone needs to come up with a 5-way nav emulator for Clie's.

Oh, does it work on your TH55? (do you still have your TH55?)
Ugh, why can't I find a 480x320 racing game??? (that's not for Zodiac...)

Hi,

Kinda sucks about the lack of support for the TH55 but it looks as if it is only going to be moreso from now on as the Clie is obsolete in developers minds.

But never for me.

I wrote to Filao a couple of hours ago concerning configurable controls, Full Screen support and stylus control. They replied to me within an hour.

Francois, of Filao says they are good suggestions and that he is passing them onto the game developer immediately. Also, he says there will be a demo version of the game available in a few days, possible within a few hours!

They will also be publishing other games from this developer (Polarbit (http://polarbit.com/games.php?mode=game&game_id=10)) in 2006 and 2007. He eluded to a game called Wave Blazer:

Gotta admit, it looks cool!

I made the mistake of purchasing this for my Zodiac before trying the demo. When I start the game from the launcher or from Resco Explorer, it looks like this:

Haven't heard anything from the developer regarding 480x320 support.

i D/L ed the demo today for my NX80V. Indeed, since theres no controller option, I cant get it to move left and right. The graphics are really sweet however and again, indeed there should be some sort of 480x320 (or 320x480, im not partial to either :) ) support.

One thing about sound. I had to disable MCA 2.05 in order for it to work, otherwize you get hard crashes galore (at least for my system)

put the device into vertical mode, then it might work a bit better.

Ugh, why can't I find a 480x320 racing game??? (that's not for Zodiac...)

1) many if not most other hi-res+ Palms are naturally portrait mode oriented. Some models can work out with both hands on one side of the Palm, but that can get cumbersome

2) a good # of Clie's are naturally oriented in landscape, but as we've discussed, Clie's have their own APIs for control access. Especially with the jog dial and clam shell keys.

3) they could allow button + stylus control use. It works nicely for MicroQuad in landscape mode on a T3. The choice of on screen virtual buttons is about as realistic as having hard buttons on both sides of the device. GTS Racing by Astraware/Pazzazz Games worked nicely with just stylus control alone. U got that analog steering wheel level of precision. However, later on, touching the screen caused the screne to slow terribly. AW couldn't figure out what was wrong.

4) I don't know how well Sony Clies with natural landscape orientation fared with landscape graphics... I'd imagine at thevery least, not bad since it IS it's native orientation, but its HHE left alot to be desired when it came to gaming. Zods on the otherhand, excellent in rendering landscape graphics in part due to its architecture but also its 8MB 2d graphics chip. Palm handhelds like the T|T3, and I'm gueesing the T|T5, T|X, and LD as well on the other hand, are not ideal for this mode. I've played games where I had the choice of hi-res, portrait, and landscape modes. Landscape mode was always noticeably slower than the other 2. Some games, not enough to deter game experience, but usually not very good. Some games like Pocket MIniGolf, Gamebox Asia, and Bike Or Die work well in landscape for a T3, but that's b/c those games are relatively simpler, esp. compared to a FP racing game.

5) hi-res+ devices are more popular than ever with the releases of the zods, T5, TX, and LD, but they're still the minority compared to hi-res or even low-res. Palm hh share is already kinda small. Palm gaming is an even smaller market than that. Small marketshare means less devs making games for those attributes

Plenty of hills and banked corners.

Thx, I've tried the demo. Looks ok, but still no Lotus Turbo Esprit feeling. It's a real pitty that MyUAE isn't fast enough with sound for it...

Plenty of hills and banked corners.

that's a refreshing change. Almost like off road racing! Everything in racing has been flat AFAIK.

BTW, purp would've been my 2nd choice of color for the new Plam logo

geez the levels are so drrnn difficult... its almost rare being a 1st placer.. grrrr. actually its very cool i hope we could have

weapons and blast other cars LOL,
configurable keys,
320x480 support,
more car models,
more levels,
and bluetooth multiplayer!

p.s. kudos to the developer! he manage to shrink it to 1MB for such a great game i was expecting at least 2MB for file size. :)
