Is it possible for a buggy program to unlock the "ROM" flash and erase it, thereby completely destroying the NX, or is there a real bootloader ROM which can be used to re-flash the OS if necessary? If it's possible, has it actually ever happened?

I ask because my previous unit was a Sharp 700 series organizer where, technically, this was possible (and actually happened to two developers). It would be necessary for a specific sequence to get written to the flash controller, and this would be unlikely to happen completely at random, but it could happen with out-of-control code that happens to jump to some bad place in the OS.

Are you a secret agent where your clie will self destruct in 15 seconds?

Seriously, you don't have anything to worry about. Sony has things locked up pretty tight to make it Mission Impossible!
